Inspiring Conversations with Sam Oh of 7th Day Coffee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Oh. Them and their team share their story with us below:

7th Day Coffee came about when co-owner, Sam Oh, was studying for his CPA exam back in 2017. He was never able to study at home so he went out and searched for different coffee shops to study at all around the DFW area and fell in love with the taste of coffee and aesthetics of coffee shops. Blake Brister, also co-owner and brother-in-law, used to sling coffee at Starbucks prior to starting up his own hair salon business (Hair Revival Studios in Dallas, TX) but always had a passion for coffee. Fast forward to 2020 and Sam and Blake set out to create a place where people can gather and not only enjoy quality, craft coffee, but to invite others to come and hangout, study/work, and rest.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been many ups and downs not only throughout the build-out phase but also when we finally got open at the end of October 2022. We dealt with contractor timelines not going as planned, failed inspections, financial issues (as we did not take out a loan or line of credit), as well as just trying to keep the business afloat without having to rely on any sort of financial aid.

We’ve been impressed with 7th Day Coffee, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner of 7th Day Coffee and we’re located in the heart of Richardson, TX. We are mainly known for our specialty drinks that we have curated in-house as well as our customer service. We try to cater towards all of our customers to the best of our ability and try to provide a unique and positive experience that you usually don’t find at other shops. We are different than most coffee shops in the DFW area because we make all of our syrups in-house without any artificial preservatives and utilize a state-of-the-art equipment, called the Ground Control, to brew and extract the most flavorful coffee in a matter of minutes. I’m very proud that I am able to display my faith through our shop’s name and logo. 7th Day comes from the Bible when God finished His creation and rested from all the work He had done. It is known as the Sabbath (meaning “to rest”) and is important to us as we are Christian owners. We live in a fast-paced, results-driven world and sometimes we forget to look back and see how much we’ve accomplished in our lifetime. So, in a similar relation to the Bible, 7th Day is a reminder to take a step back, rest (over a cup of coffee), and appreciate all the things we’ve done because we deserve it.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel like the most important characteristic to my success has been to just treat people equally and with kindness and being personable to others. I put an emphasis on customer service to my team and we strive to do our best to give the best experience possible to anyone who walks through our doors.
