Inspiring Conversations with Sarah Tadlock of Thrive CO Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Tadlock

Hi Sarah , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Starting at nineteen years old, I had the honor of working with survivors of sex trafficking in Austin, TX in different capacities. After college, I bought a one way ticket to Thailand with the goal of learning more about trafficking on an international scale. During this time, I realized I lacked tools to understand complex trauma and its impact on the nervous system, however, I did not know that I wanted to become a therapist. I graduated from the University of Houston with my Masters in Social Work in 2017 with a focus on aftercare for survivors of sex trafficking. While my jobs after grad school were not specifically on survivors, I began to observe the intersectionality that impacted the clients I worked with. This led to a lot of personal work I needed to do on my own and how I show up as a therapist. During this time, I also had the privilege of working with clients in schools, communities, behavioral health hospitals, and more. I learned the best way to show up as a therapist, is to do the work yourself, & to be aware of how you show it- because it will impact the relationships you have with your clients. My clients have impacted me in sacred ways, and I am so honored to be a therapist. I’ve been in private practice since 2021.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a business owner has a lot of highs and lows. Highs are doing what you love, making your own schedule, and taking time off when you want. A struggle is trusting the process. Grad school does not teach you how to market or how to be a business owner; they teach you how to sit with people’s feelings. I continue to learn new things every day. I also value consultation and asking for help along the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Thrive CO Counseling provides trauma informed therapy and EMDR counseling for women in Dallas, TX or virtually anywhere in Colorado! In my practice I am passionate about seeing individuals discover wholeness, and reclaim their past. A few areas I specialize in are: dealing with complex PTSD, sexual and religious trauma, social anxiety, and relationship problems. I love to empower my clients to heal their inner child through EMDR and through parts work. I know how hard it is to find a therapist who you can truly connect with and who has also overcome complex trauma. I feel that sets me apart- a therapist who really gets it and who is passionate about continuing to do work on themselves. Yes- I still go to therapy!. I also realize healing is a process and can feel lonely. I am also working towards the Somatic Experiencing Practitioner certificate which is a life changing modaility to heal stuck nervous system responses like (fight, flight, freeze, and collapse). I have completed Beginner I training.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love all the different types of food Dallas has to offer! I dislike the lack of nature in Dallas.
