Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Titensor.
Hi Scott, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I bought Bart’s Heating and Air with three partners and friends (Nathan Lenahan, Jonathan Chasse, and Ryan Smith). We’ve built, bought, and sold companies in the real estate and home services industries over the last decade. Nate, Ryan, and I met in college while working for the BYU football team as student managers. Nate met Jon through an Army friend of his (Nate is an Army Veteran) and then all four of us worked on the same team at WeWork. We’ve all accumulated separate skillsets throughout the years that we are bringing together to make a difference in the home services industry around DFW. We want to restore transparency and hospitality to the service/trades industry and make working in trades sexy again!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
By obstacles do you mean getting into sauna-like attics during the middle of the summer to install a new AC system? That’s definitely a challenge, but we do it with a smile! Challenges we face are always making each customer feel like they’re our only customer and that can sometimes get hard when we get really busy in the summer months. We are grateful for every customer and want to treat them like we would our own family and that’s the approach we take to every job we go on.
We knew we wanted to break into the home services business in DFW and finding the perfect company to buy did take us some time. We were looking for a company that had been around for about 20 years and was a customer-first organization that we could build on the culture and legacy they had created. When we found Bart’s, we knew right away that was the company we wanted to buy and build even more throughout DFW.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Brand – I was on a ride-along driving through a neighborhood and we got waved down by a customer who recognized our truck. She told us to hold on and ran back in the house and brought us some cookies she had just baked and wanted to share with us when she saw we were in the neighborhood. Our customers love seeing us…even if we aren’t in their area to work on their home.
Known for – Our company mission is “Change lives through the trades. Create smiles. Do it every day.” We try and live by that every day with every job we go on. If our techs don’t crack a joke or make you smile on the job, then they’re not working hard enough! We also tell our customers if they share a good dad joke with us, we’ll take $10 off their bill!
Readers to know – We offer the GOODEST MEMBERSHIP to our customers as an option for twice-annual maintenance that provides peace of mind, discounts, and giveaways throughout the year. We also are transparent pricing without any BS! Our pricing can be found one website. You can even get quotes for new AC systems through our online calculator so you know what your options are without talking to us.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
One of our company values is being “an extreme owner. Take chances, fail, move on”. We share that with all our of our team members and ask them to truly own their roles. There’s obvious risk when dealing with technical trades like troubleshooting HVAC issues correctly, but each risk you take turns into a learning opportunity that we challenge our techs to take in order to become true experts in the industry!
