Inspiring Conversations with Shannon Savoy of Narc Free Living

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Savoy.

Hi Shannon, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I am a 2x best-selling co-author, YouTuber, speaker, coach, advocate, and forward-thinking ministry leader who creates safe spaces and builds communities for survivors! I believe when survivors share their experiences; this begins the process of healing from abuse and trauma through the power of Jesus Christ.

I formed Narc Free Living LLC in 2020 after breaking the chains of generational curses and narcissist abuse in my family. I was in an abusive marriage to a narcissistic sociopath and knew that if I can break free and thrive after abuse, I wanted to help others as well. Narc Free Living was developed from personal experience and understanding that abuse is debilitating, embarrassing, and isolating. I understand firsthand that survivors should not bear the guilt and shame projected on them by abusers, flying monkeys, and emotionally unsafe people. I am committed to creating safe spaces on my social media platforms and via one-on-one & group coaching sessions. I want survivors to know they are not alone!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I am learning that as much as I want to help others, not everyone is willing to take the road less traveled to be free. Healing is work. I am not for everyone and not every client or mentee that comes to me is meant to work with me. It takes dedication, commitment, and transparency to overcome abuse. It is work that I take very seriously. My ideal client is ready for change. They are sick & tired of being sick & tired. They are willing to put on the work for healing. They do their assigned homework between sessions & come to each session ready to be transparent. Together in Christ, I help them to achieve their healing goals and to truly break the chains of narcissist abuse!

We’ve been impressed with Narc Free Living LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Narc Free Living® is a life coaching business & deliverance ministry that caters to survivors of domestic violence & narcissistic abuse with biblical & practical strategies. NFL is a woman, minority-owned, disabled veteran small-owned business that understands abuse affects all races, demographics, socioeconomic backgrounds.

I mentor, coach, and train others to identify red flags and help formulate strategic tactics to recognize, heal, and OVERCOME abusive relationships. Many do not recognize that they are in abusive relationships. I help them understand they are not alone and they should not bear the shame of abuse. Through Chain Breaker University and the power of Holy Spirit, we truly break the chains of abuse!

What sets me apart as a certified narcissist abuse recovery coach is that I truly connect and have a heart for survivors of abuse. I have been where they are, either with narcissistic parents, sexual, physical, or emotional abuse, workplace, & interpersonal relationships.

Last summer in 2022, I launched Chain Breaker University, an online, virtual safe space for women recovering from abuse. It is exciting to see their lives transformed in Christ right before my eyes.

My services include YouTube exhortations and teachings, 1:1 recovery, business & group coaching, educational workshops, survivor support groups, newsletters, digital magazines, apparel, interpersonal violence (IPV) training, speaking engagements, and more!

Core values: Christ-Centered, Communication, Candor, & Community

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Life is full of valuable lessons that can shape our perspectives, guide our actions, and contribute to personal growth and fulfillment. Here are some important life lessons that many people find meaningful:

1. Keep God first! Seek ye first the kingdom of Heaven “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33

2. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! Embrace change: Change is inevitable in life, and learning to embrace it allows for growth, adaptation, and new opportunities. Rather than resisting change, cultivate a mindset that welcomes it as a natural part of life.

3. Practice gratitude: Cultivating a sense of gratitude helps shift your focus towards the positive aspects of life. Acknowledge and appreciate the blessings, experiences, and relationships that bring you joy and fulfillment.

4. Take risks and embrace failure: Taking calculated risks is essential for personal growth and achieving your goals. Understand that failure is a part of the learning process and an opportunity for growth and resilience. Embrace failures as valuable lessons and stepping stones toward success.

5. Prioritize relationships: Nurture and invest in meaningful relationships with family, friends, and loved ones. Quality relationships bring joy, support, and a sense of belonging. Make time for connection, communication, and building strong bonds.

6. Practice self-compassion: Treat yourself with kindness, understanding, and forgiveness. Be gentle with yourself during challenging times, and recognize that everyone makes mistakes. Practice self-care and prioritize your well-being.

7. Embrace uncertainty: Life is unpredictable, and learning to embrace uncertainty can reduce anxiety and foster resilience. Develop the ability to adapt, be flexible, and find comfort in the unknown. Embrace the journey and trust in your ability to navigate life’s uncertainties.

8. Be true to yourself: Being YOU is your superpower.

9. Practice empathy and compassion: Cultivate empathy by seeking to understand and relate to the experiences and perspectives of others. Practice compassion by extending kindness, support, and understanding to those around you. Small acts of kindness can have a profound impact on others’ lives.

10. Cultivate resilience: Life will inevitably present challenges and setbacks. Cultivate resilience by developing coping mechanisms, a positive mindset, and the ability to bounce back from adversity. View challenges as opportunities for growth and learning.

Bonus:

10. Live in the present moment: Sometimes, we need to put our phones on DND to be fully present in each moment! Focus on the here and now, appreciating the beauty and experiences life has to offer. A heart of gratitude and living in the NOW can bring clarity, reduce stress, and enhance your overall well-being.
