Inspiring Conversations with Shawnta Lewis-Still of Isabel Hope Harbor Transitional Living

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawnta Lewis-Still.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Isabel Hope Harbor began as a personal calling rooted in what I witnessed growing up and throughout my life.

I saw people, friends, neighbors, and family members cycle in and out of incarceration, treatment, and crisis, not because they lacked desire to do better, but because they lacked stability once they returned home. Too often, there was nowhere safe, structured, and supportive for men to land while trying to rebuild their lives.

Isabel Hope Harbor was created to be that missing bridge.

Named in honor of my grandmother’s home on Isabel Street, the program is built on the belief that a stable home, clear expectations, and community accountability can change outcomes. What began as a vision to honor her legacy has grown into a structured transitional living home for adult men (21+) focused on recovery, responsibility, and independence.

Today, Isabel Hope Harbor provides sober, shared housing in South Dallas for men navigating reentry, recovery, or housing instability. We offer a non-clinical, structured environment grounded in dignity, routine, and peer support—helping residents regain footing as they move toward long-term stability.

Isabel Hope Harbor exists because stability is often the difference between starting over and starting again.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was able to get the program off the ground and secure a house with 2 months; however, building a quality program took much more than finding a property. The real work began in creating the structure, policies, and standards needed to make Isabel Hope Harbor safe, compliant, and sustainable.

I focused on doing things the right way from the beginning; aligning with recovery housing standards, setting clear expectations, and building systems that protect both residents and the community. That meant slowing down at times, revising plans, and learning as I went.

While the physical space came together quickly, earning trust, establishing partnerships, and building a program with integrity has been an ongoing process. It reinforced for me that meaningful impact isn’t about speed, it’s about intention and foundation.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Isabel Hope Harbor Transitional Living?
Isabel Hope Harbor is a structured transitional living program in South Dallas created to serve adult men (21+) who are ready for stability, accountability, and a fresh start. We provide sober, shared housing designed as a bridge for individuals transitioning from treatment, reentry, displacement, or housing instability.

What we do is simple but intentional: we create safe, structured homes where residents can focus on rebuilding their lives. Our program is non-clinical and recovery-focused, emphasizing routine, personal responsibility, peer accountability, and practical life skills that support long-term independence.

What sets Isabel Hope Harbor apart is our balance of compassion and structure. We are clear about expectations, sobriety, and shared responsibility, while also honoring each individual’s dignity and personal journey. We align with social-model recovery principles and focus on creating an environment where growth is possible without chaos or confusion.

We are especially known for being referral-friendly and partner-ready. Case managers, courts, hospitals, and service providers value our clarity around eligibility, funding, and placement, which helps reduce delays and uncertainty for the people they serve.

Brand-wise, I am most proud of the intentionality behind Isabel Hope Harbor. From our policies to our physical space, everything is designed to feel respectful, stable, and hopeful — not institutional, not temporary, but purpose-driven. The home itself carries legacy and meaning, rooted in family, community, and the belief that everyone deserves a place where hope can take hold.

What I want readers to know most is that Isabel Hope Harbor isn’t just housing — it’s a foundation. We exist to help men regain footing, confidence, and direction, one stable step at a time.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If there’s one thing I’d want readers to take away, it’s that stability changes everything. When someone has a safe place to land, real growth becomes possible, not just in recovery, but in confidence, responsibility, and hope.

Isabel Hope Harbor was created with the belief that people don’t need perfection to move forward; they need opportunity, structure, and someone willing to believe in their potential. Every step we take is rooted in dignity, accountability, and the idea that transformation happens when people are given space to rebuild — not just survive.

I’m deeply grateful for the community partners, neighbors, and supporters who believe in this work. Together, we’re proving that when housing is done with intention, it can truly become a catalyst for lasting change.
