Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Williams.
Hi Shelby, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
About 4 years ago now, my husband and I made the important decision to get out of debt and start on our financial journey. One of the first ways we got started making extra income was by selling items in our house like furniture, trinkets, etc. that we just didn’t need anymore. About this same time, I had been scrolling through Facebook and started to see a bunch of free furniture in great shape just being put on the curb and told to “come and get it”. We picked up a free dresser in a car we weren’t sure we were going to be able to fit it in and ended up cleaning it up and selling it for $150.00. We very quickly became hooked on picking up free furniture and selling it to generate more income. After a few months of selling free items, we picked up on the side of the road, I noticed a shift in what people were starting to purchase, and the Mid – Century and Eclectic furniture started becoming really popular. I fell in love with this wave of interior design and knew I needed to have these types of pieces in my life…even if it was for a short time before going to the perfect home. Thus, Texas Vintage Finds was born. I fell in love with vintage furniture and bringing it to the people of DFW for a reasonable price to be shared for generations to come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It started off smoothly and supply was readily available…that is until Covid hit. Most of our sources for beautiful vintages pieces had shut down temporarily and even some permanently. This coupled with a lot of people being out of work did put a strain on the used furniture market as it wasn’t deemed a “necessary business”.
As you know, we’re big fans of Texas Vintage Finds. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Born out of a passion for thrifting and a love for all things retro and vintage, Texas Vintage Finds is proud to offer affordable vintage décor, Mid – Century Modern furniture, and all things eclectic for your trendy home. We really strive to bring high-quality pieces at reasonable rates. There are a lot of people who do what we do but I think what sets us apart is the fact that we are able to find high quality, and highly sought-after pieces and offer them to our clients at an affordable price. I am always proud of when I can find pieces that fulfill my clients’ dreams and really ties their entire space together.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I am a pretty open book but I think the first couple of things that come to mind is that this is not my only business. I also run a photography business and have a full-time job in marketing. To say I am busy is an understatement but I would not have it any other way! I also compete competitively in Weightlifting and love to mountain bike!
