Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne Gover.
Hi Suzanne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our business began as a small cafe/coffee shop at Baylor Scott & White – Frisco in 2005. Several years later when the hospital expanded, we transitioned from a cafe to a larger space and became a full service gift and flower shop. We realized at that point that God had provided an even bigger opportunity for us to honor Him, to bless our customers and to bring joy to our community. We were “simply blessed!” Hence the name, Simply Blessed Flowers and Gifts.
After being at Baylor for 10 years, we had outgrown the space and decided to open a full service florist outside of the hospital in Frisco. Our family never dreamed our little cafe we opened 20 years ago would turn into what it is today. Over the years, God has truly blessed our business with dedicated staff with incredible talent. We have met so many amazing people along the way that have encouraged and supported us. It has been a joy to be on this journey!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any business, there are ups and downs. When sales dip or trends change, we have to be open to change, pivot and think outside of the box. What works today might not work tomorrow but we always strive to be consistent in the important things like building relationships with our clients and staff, supporting other local businesses and providing exceptional customer service and products. By constantly focusing on these important aspects makes it possible for us to get through the hard times and continue to grow.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are known as a shop that cares about our clients. We have an AMAZING team that creates beautiful floral arrangements and we strive to always provide 5 STAR service!! We love to have a part in people’s special occasions, celebrations and sorrows and our main goal is to bring JOY to our community! Weddings, events, corporate accounts, floral bars and floral classes are just a few of the ways we attempt to meet the needs of our customers.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Value your staff! Let them know they are ROCK STARS!!! They are the face of your shop and are the ones helping you build your business. Find ways to let them know how much you appreciate them. Encourage them and challenge them to grow in whatever position they are in. Create a positive work environment where they feel valued and they will take ownership in what you are trying to build.
Don’t get discouraged in the difficult times, they will be your building blocks for the future. Remember that success is a moving target. Set goals and enjoy the journey!
