Inspiring Conversations with Tanicka Kirk of Built2Serve

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanicka Kirk.

Hi Tanicka, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I actually love this question because it reminds me of a time when I had a big vision but absolutely no roadmap for how to get there.

My real estate journey started in 2017 after I left the Army and purchased my first property a duplex. At the time, I thought I was simply buying a home and making a smart financial decision. I had no idea that one purchase would completely change the way I viewed real estate.

A few years later, I moved to Dallas, and I couldn’t stop learning about real estate. The more I learned, the more I realized it wasn’t just about owning property it was about building something meaningful. My military background also gave me a unique perspective. Through my VA benefits, purchasing a home was more accessible for me than it is for many families, and I realized that homeownership isn’t an equal playing field.

In 2023, I decided to pursue real estate as more than just an investment. I began focusing on renovating homes with the goal of creating beautiful, updated spaces that everyday families could actually afford in a challenging housing market. I believe people deserve a home they’re proud of, regardless of their budget.

As my experience grew, I found myself working with homeowners facing foreclosure. Too often, people think losing their home is their only option when life takes an unexpected turn. I wanted to be someone who could help them understand their choices and guide them toward the solution that made the most sense for their situation.

Today, I’m continuing to grow as a real estate investor, but this is only the beginning. My long-term vision is much bigger than flipping homes. I want to develop communities, build quality housing, and ultimately create neighborhoods that serve veterans and other families looking for stability, opportunity, and a place they’re proud to call home. Looking back, it’s amazing that it all started with one duplex and a dream that felt much bigger than I knew how to accomplish.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. In fact, I’d probably say the only smooth part was coming up with the idea.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about real estate is that people only see the finished product the beautifully renovated home or the successful closing. They rarely see everything that happens behind the scenes to get there.

I’ve experienced plenty of setbacks. There were moments of self-doubt where I questioned whether I was on the right path. I’ve had homeowners back out of deals at the last minute, contractors not show up or leave projects unfinished, and unexpected repair costs that completely changed the numbers on a property. Every challenge teaches you something, but it can also test your patience and your confidence.

Whenever I found myself questioning the journey, I had to remind myself that just because God gave me the vision didn’t mean He promised the path would be easy. That perspective helped me keep moving forward, even when things didn’t go as planned.

For anyone thinking about getting into real estate, know that it isn’t easy. It’s a business that will challenge you, stretch you, and definitely give you thick skin. But if you’re willing to learn, stay resilient, and remember why you started, every obstacle becomes part of the story you’re building. Looking back, those challenges didn’t stop me they shaped me into a better investor and business person

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Built2Serve is more than a real estate company it’s the foundation of how I believe business should be done. The name wasn’t chosen because it sounded good. It represents my commitment to serve first, no matter how much the company grows. My faith is at the center of that. I believe God calls us to serve others, and I wanted that principle to be the foundation of my business from day one.

I believe real estate is about so much more than buying and selling houses. Behind every property is a person with a story. Someone may be facing foreclosure, navigating probate after losing a loved one, relocating, downsizing, or simply choosing a different path in life. Those moments can be overwhelming, and people deserve someone who will take the time to listen before trying to close a deal.

At Built2Serve, we start by helping people understand their options. Sometimes working with us is the best solution, and sometimes it’s not. Either way, I want every homeowner to walk away feeling informed, respected, and empowered to make the decision that’s right for them. If we’ve helped someone gain clarity during a difficult season, we’ve accomplished our mission.

What sets us apart is our commitment to service. We don’t believe every homeowner fits into the same solution because every situation is different. We take the time to understand each person’s goals before recommending a path forward.

I’m especially proud that our brand is built around purpose instead of transactions. As we continue to grow, that commitment to serving others will never change. Today that means helping homeowners navigate difficult transitions and investing in quality housing. We’re also actively working toward creating assisted living opportunities for veterans, a project that’s very close to my heart. Looking ahead, my vision is to expand into residential development and build communities that create opportunities for people from all walks of life.

At the end of the day, I don’t want Built2Serve to be remembered simply as a company that bought or renovated homes. I want it to be known as a company that served people with integrity, compassion, and excellence—and left every person better than we found them.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe the real estate industry is going to look very different over the next five to ten years. One of the biggest challenges we’ll continue to face is housing affordability. For many families, the dream of homeownership feels further away than it did a generation ago, and I think the industry will have to become more creative in how we address that.

I also believe we’ll see a shift from simply building houses to building communities. People aren’t just looking for a place to live they’re looking for neighborhoods that provide connection, safety, convenience, and long-term value. Developers and investors who think beyond the transaction will be the ones who make the greatest impact.

Technology and AI will continue to change the way properties are bought, sold, and managed, making many processes faster and more efficient. But I don’t believe technology will replace the human side of this business. If anything, trust, relationships, and integrity will become even more important because those are things technology can’t replicate.

As for Built2Serve, I don’t just want to adapt to those changes I want to be part of creating them. My goal is to grow from investing in individual properties to developing communities that provide quality housing and create opportunities for people from all walks of life. I believe the future of real estate belongs to those who combine innovation with service, and that’s exactly the kind of company I’m building.
