Inspiring Conversations with VJ [Vipul] JAIN of Delhi6 Indian kitchen

Today we’d like to introduce you to VJ [Vipul] JAIN.

Hi VJ [Vipul], thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Delhi6 Indian Kitchen is the result of a dream deeply rooted in memories, flavors, and a love for community. We, Vipul Jain (VJ) and Abhishek Jain (AJ), were both born in Delhi, India, where food is not just a part of life, but the heart of it. Growing up, we were fortunate to experience some of Delhi’s most iconic culinary destinations, such as Moti Mahal, the birthplace of Butter Chicken, and Karim’s, renowned for its Mughlai cuisine. Whether it was indulgent, savory meats or comforting vegetarian dishes, those flavors stayed with us even after we moved to Texas, which we now proudly call home.

Our journey into the food world began, naturally, at home. Weekend gatherings were a tradition, and our kitchens were always fully equipped and buzzing with activity. Cooking and sharing meals was how we celebrated life. However, we noticed something missing—the bold, vibrant, and authentic flavors of Delhi cuisine were not being represented in our area, especially around Highland Village. That was the inspiration for us to bring the true taste of Delhi to our new home.

Starting Delhi6 in March 2020 was an unforgettable experience, to say the least. Our opening day coincided with the beginning of the COVID-19 shutdowns, and Denton County quickly restricted public dining. We had to pivot from a dine-in model to 100% takeout almost overnight. It was one of the most uncertain times in our lives, but we placed our trust in the community, and the support we received was incredible. Thanks to that shared sense of responsibility, we managed to survive together.

Before opening Delhi6, we had other restaurant ventures, but we decided to step away from those to dedicate ourselves entirely to this location. Highland Village is not just where our business is; it is where our hearts are. The support we received during the pandemic was not just financial—it was emotional and personal. We built connections with families, first responders, and people in need. We were even able to give away meals to those struggling while being uplifted by those who were able to give back.

What makes Delhi6 truly unique is that we combine the comfort of family-style meals with an elevated dining experience. Everything we serve is made fresh in-house, from our sauces to our cocktails, and every dish is cooked to order. Whether it’s a special date night or a family dinner, we aim to offer an experience that is both comforting and refined.

Our greatest achievement is not a statistic or a number; it’s the people we’ve connected with. The ability to give back to the community that helped us is a reward beyond measure. The love and support we’ve received here is truly exceptional, and it’s one of the reasons we have never considered relocating to a more commercial area. Instead, we are expanding right here in Highland Village. We are excited to announce that our new location at 2420 Justin Road will be opening soon, and we cannot wait to welcome you all to our new home.
