Today we’d like to introduce you to Yamilette Rodriguez.
Hi Yamilette , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my journey in online education working with established companies like Qkids, ClassShareUSA and All Kids Spanish, where I gained valuable experience teaching young learners from diverse backgrounds. After three years of working within those platforms, I decided to take the leap and start my own classes—tailored specifically to meet the needs of ESL students in the U.S., Mexico, Puerto Rico and Saudi Arabia. In November of 2023 I launched PeakPower Learners Online Classes!
Many of the families I worked with were looking for support to help their children develop stronger English skills, particularly in reading and speaking. I saw firsthand how much of a difference personalized instruction could make, especially for students navigating multiple languages at once.
Over time, I began to notice a shift. While English development is still a priority, more and more parents started reaching out for help with Spanish. They recognized the importance of bilingual education and wanted their children to become confident in both languages. With the growth of dual language programs in schools, families saw the value of reinforcing those skills at home—and that’s where I’ve been able to support them with my live online lessons through Zoom.
My tutoring services focus on building strong literacy and communication skills in both English and Spanish for students in 1st to 4th grade. My goal is to help students thrive in multilingual environments and give parents the peace of mind that their children are developing skills that will benefit them for life.
At the heart of it all, I believe that language is the key in connecting with people around the world. Through language, we build understanding, confidence, and meaningful relationships—and that’s what drives the work I do every day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not—it’s been a journey with its fair share of challenges. One of the biggest hurdles early on was managing time zones, since my students are located across different cities and countries. Making sure I was showing up at the right time for each session required a lot of organization (and a few missed alarms before I figured out a solid system!).
Another challenge has been creating engaging, effective lessons that meet the needs of individual learners, especially when balancing multiple age groups and language levels. It takes time and effort to build resources that are both educational and fun.
While many families are eager to support their children’s language development, helping them understand the importance of regular attendance and practice has been an ongoing part of the work. Consistency can be a key struggle, but I’ve learned that clear communication with parents is essential—not just about scheduling, but about setting high expectations and building long-term habits for success.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m a bilingual, certified teacher in the state of Texas with over 18 years of experience. I’m the lead tutor for PeakPower Learners working primarily with ESL students and those enrolled in dual language programs. I cater exclusively to families who value bilingual education and want their children to grow confidently in both languages.
My lessons are delivered in both languages, depending on the student’s needs, and focus on building strong foundational skills in phonics, phonemic awareness, reading fluency, and comprehension, as well as listening and speaking. All sessions are conducted via Zoom, which makes it easy and convenient for busy parents to fit tutoring into their schedules. Although most families book my services to support their children in building foundational reading skills, many also enroll in Spanish classes either as part of their homeschooling curriculum or as academic enrichment for students in hybrid educational programs. I’m excited to begin partnering with microschools across the U.S. to support and expand bilingual education.
It’s important to note that my approach goes beyond language development—I also introduce children to the diverse cultures and countries of Latin America. By exposing them to different traditions, histories, and perspectives, I aim to broaden their understanding of the world and foster cultural appreciation from a young age. I believe that early exposure to multiple languages and traditions helps children develop empathy, confidence, curiosity and a broader worldview—skills that will benefit them for life.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned on this journey is not to compare myself to others. Everyone’s path and purpose are different, and growth looks different for each person. I’ve also realized that success takes time, dedication, and consistency—nothing happens overnight. My mother instilled in me the importance of hard work, and personal responsibility. She often reminded me, ‘If you’re going to do something, do it right.’ These values became the foundation of my character. I was also fortunate to have a sister who also served as a role model—someone who consistently demonstrated what it meant to lead by example and live with intention. Building a business isn’t the end goal—it’s the journey that shapes you. The process itself is where the real growth happens.
