I initially started working at an after-school program that offered good pay. However, when COVID-19 hit in 2019, I was laid off due to the pandemic. Before that, I had been thinking about starting my own lashing business, but I kept putting it off because I was balancing both college and work. Being laid off, though, became the turning point for me. It gave me the push I needed to take that leap of faith and finally start my business. Since then, my lashing business has been thriving, and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s important to recognize that the journey hasn’t been entirely smooth. In the beginning, I faced challenges, especially with feeling unsatisfied with my work. While my lashing business has seen success, the road hasn’t always been smooth. Entrepreneurship comes with its highs and lows, and the beginning was especially tough. I struggled with dissatisfaction in my work—I wasn’t always confident in the results, and that frustration made it difficult at times. But I realized that growth takes time, and mastering any craft requires patience. Those early mistakes didn’t define me; instead, they became lessons that fueled my determination. Every setback pushed me to improve, and I began to see them not as failures, but as necessary steps in building something great. That mindset helped me push through, and it’s what keeps me going today.
