We recently had the chance to connect with Jenee Salako and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenee, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What battle are you avoiding?
A battle I’ve been avoiding is fully facing the fear of failure—especially when things get overwhelming or during moments when progress feels slow or the path forward isn’t clear. Sometimes, the temptation is to mentally check out, delay action, or tell myself that stepping back is safer than continuing to push through uncertainty.
But deep down, I know that avoidance doesn’t solve anything—it just delays growth. Lately, I’ve been working on not running from those hard moments and instead leaning into them. I’ve learned that persistence is not just a feeling but a discipline. For me, that means showing up even when I don’t feel 100% confident or motivated.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m the proud owner of Dance LYFE, a dynamic dance consulting company that also operates its own studio. At Dance LYFE, we’re more than just a place to train—we’re a resource, a creative partner, and a performance-driven community.
Our mission is to help individuals and teams elevate their existing dance practices to the next level. Whether you’re a dancer, choreographer, or part of a performance group, we specialize in refining what’s already working and bringing in fresh, innovative strategies to unlock even greater potential.
Through personalized training, choreography enhancement, and professional consultancy, Dance LYFE is here to guide you every step of the way. From building stronger technique to elevating stage presence, our goal is to support your journey and push your performance further than you imagined.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom saw me clearly before I ever really saw myself. She recognized my potential long before I did—especially in moments when I doubted my abilities or felt uncertain about my path. She saw my passion for dance, my creativity, and my leadership qualities, even when I couldn’t fully name or own them.
She always spoke to the version of me I was becoming, not just the version I was in that moment. That gave me the courage to grow into the person and professional I am today. Her belief in me was steady, and sometimes that belief was the only thing that kept me going when I wanted to quit. Looking back, I realize she wasn’t just encouraging me—she was reflecting back a truth about me that I hadn’t yet come to believe.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes—when my best friend, my husband, passed away. That was the moment everything in my world shifted. The grief was overwhelming, and for a while, it felt like the light had gone out of everything I loved, including dance. I questioned my purpose, my strength, and whether I could keep going without him by my side.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire Jesus for His character, not His power. What stands out to me most is His humility, compassion, and unwavering love for people—even those who rejected or misunderstood Him.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, I think my customers would miss the connection we’ve built and the ear I’ve always had to listen. For me, it’s never just been about dance steps or choreography—it’s been about creating a space where people feel seen, heard, and supported.
