Johnny The Wise of Far North Dallas on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Johnny The Wise shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Johnny, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I do have some goals that I am working on, but for now, I’m wandering with purpose. Like walking confidently when you aren’t sure where the car is parked, but not wanting to show signs of panic. There are some events I am waiting for first, so in the meantime I’m studying and building my network.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Greetings! I’m Johnny “TheWiseRunner” and I am your friendly neighborhood runner who likes to explore the trails and promote running, the outdoors, and the appreciation of art by design. I try to encourage community by outreach and volunteering. Admittedly, I do so selfishly. I enjoy learning the history of places from people who have a connection to a location. I am working on establishing a gym in the metroplex.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That just being able was good enough for success.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I did martial arts growing up. One thing our teacher would say is ” Pain is a motivator.” If you miss a block and get hit in the face, it hurts. The next time the same punch is thrown, you will be more likely to be enthusiastic about blocking or getting out of the way. In a fight, when you win, you can walk away feeling more confident in what you do know. However, after a loss, you discover that there is more to learn and more to work on. Suffering is painful, but there is no progress without struggle.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
Fads usually burn fast — there’s a boom, then smoke, then silence. A real shift sticks because the passion of a few eventually becomes the norm for many. Time has a way of separating sparks from true fire.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
A wise man once said “Real G’s move in silence.” Praise is external — it comes and goes. What matters is knowing I gave my best, regardless of who’s watching. The reward of a job well done is knowing that I did it, not that someone else noticed.
