We recently had the chance to connect with Katy Peres and have shared our conversation below.
Katy, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Running a wedding and events venue might seem like a fun, easy weekend job, but in reality, it’s a full-time commitment. Behind the scenes, it involves extensive computer work, detailed planning, and constant preparation throughout the entire week.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We’re a husband-and-wife team and proud owners of The Backyard Venue in McKinney, TX. With my background in real estate, I’ve incorporated many of the design elements I’ve loved seeing in beautiful homes such as warm textures, cozy gathering spaces, and elegant touches throughout. My husband, a skilled and creative builder, brought every detail to life with his craftsmanship and vision. Together, we’ve created a warm, inviting venue where up to 120 guests can gather to celebrate life’s biggest moments. Whether it’s a wedding, shower, or special event, our goal is to make every guest feel welcome, comfortable, and inspired.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My passion for great customer service started early. My father owned a clothing store, and I learned so much simply by watching how he treated every customer with respect, kindness, and attention to detail. I especially loved helping out during the busy holiday season. Those moments shaped the way I approach work even now.
After getting married, my husband and I started our own lawn and landscape business. I managed all the communication, scheduling, and invoicing, which taught me how to be organized, responsive, and dependable which are skills that became the foundation for running The Backyard Venue.
Today, I believe the most important part of my work is delivering exceptional customer service. That means clear communication, being personable and approachable, and always doing whatever it takes, even behind the scenes, to save the day when challenges arise.
Helping people has always been at the heart of what I do. Now, I get to help them celebrate life’s biggest moments in a space we created with love, and that’s the greatest gift of all.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I’m stronger now because I had to fight to get to where I am. Every setback taught me resilience, and every hardship became a lesson. Perseverance has shaped who I am. I chose to find the lesson, grow from it, and keep moving forward.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. I’m an open book. I believe in transparency, honesty, and owning my mistakes. I strive to always do my best, work hard, and go the extra mile to make people feel valued and cared for.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope I’m remembered as someone who loved deeply: loved God, cherished my family and friends, and truly cared for every person who crossed my path.
