Andrew Finch shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Andrew, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day consists of me praying, sending the verse of the day to my children and their mother, stretching, normal self care things, then calling my children on their way to school to pray over their day and read the verse of the day, from there I read my daily devotionals, meditate, journal, and do a light workout. All in all I start my day by 6:30a and by 8a I’m spiritually, mentally, and physically ready to DOMINATE!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Allow me to reintroduce myself (HOV voice) My name is Andrew Finch aka Titan.
About 6 years ago God gave me a vision while in a field at a park during my daughter Aubrie’s soccer practice that I was supposed to be teaching/guiding/training/coaching/mentoring, leaving a legacy for generations to follow. The most divine part of it, I was arrested at 20 years old at that same park, and they tried to label me some kind of drug kingpin.
Recently I’ve been in contact with a few directors about training and coaching within their organizations. I’m finishing up a summer of traveling the country helping host basketball camps with PGC, Phenom America, 94 Feet of Game, SWEAT, and I’ve had an opportunity to work closely with Phil Handy 3X NBA Champion and player development pioneer, plus other globally recognized NBA/PRO/ELITE level trainers and coaches.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My Aunt BeBe! She passed right at the beginning of COVID at 85 years young She was the grandmother I never had, because her sister, my grandmother Gloria passed two months before I was born.
I used to spend summers out in the country in Alabama with her and my siblings playing checkers, watching cows over yonder, going to piggly wiggly, and playing with her collectible antiques.
She used to see me and tell me how dapper I was, and she’d always joke with me, just really took time sitting with me talking. She genuinely listened and always told me to keep going for whatever it is I wanted in life. I know she was proud of me!
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a major time when I almost gave up. COVID shut pretty much everything down and as a trainer and coach, I was just getting started when the whole sports industry said, “NAW BRUH! You gon have to wait!” I was transitioning from the financial industry to sports where my heart was and right away God showed me, “yeah I called you here, but you must work and trust me.”
Rainy days, 100+ degree days, freezing days, muddy days…ALL OF THAT cost me money, clients, experience to get better and help others get better.
All I could remember was making it to play college basketball at 22 after no one gave me a shot out of high school, and I had been in trouble prior to getting the opportunity.
That was a 4 year journey of MAJOR ROLLERCOASTER life moments. I was hospitalized, traveled the country, DOGGING guys on the court, and no one gave me a shot, until I made my own highlight tape, uploaded it on YouTube and sent it around the country.
Whether you get something done or you don’t, the excuse is valid, so I’d rather make an excuse to get it done.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to believe in what I hear most people say…believe, believe, believe, or hope, think, probably, potentially, maybe.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the WORD says let your Yes be YES and No be NO. God is not a lukewarm God. We were made in the image of the creator, so if God knows we have the victory, then why are we living with all these uncertainties.
I speak as to what I ‘Know’ and I MOVE on certainty. If these words… believe, or hope, think, probably, potentially, maybe come from people’s mouth in a direct statement I immediately call them on it, because I want them to recognize the power they have spiritually to BE DO and HAVE all we’re meant to BE, DO, and HAVE!
What’s more powerful I know I’m winning or I believe in winning? I move KNOWING everything for me is already there waiting, and the universe around me is efficiently and effectively brining us closer.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
Growing up, though I didn’t grow up in roughest and toughest of circumstances, my parents did, my grandparents did, I was the youngest of 4, and I was a perceptive child, so I saw my parents struggles, I heard tough conversations, and I wasn’t the biggest, fastest, or strongest. I grew up with a chip on my shoulder. The violence and anger towards me I experienced as a young boy hurt me deeply inside, and confused me. I didn’t have the proper outlets to help me channel pain, anger, confusion and as I’ve matured with experience and age those have turned into toughness and hard lessons. I’m tough and speak hard truth to people, which most times they don’t like because most people are used to lies or softness speech as to not be offensive. I don’t offend, the WORD says the TRUTH will offend and when I speak it, I speak from a place of love. I have Peace and Love tattooed on my chest because that’s what I lead with.
I’m not a soft peacekeeper. I confront angst head on to be a peacemaker.
One is passive and the other is confrontational. Most people don’t like confrontation, so they never get to where they’re called to go.
