Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Ashley Stuhr of Fort Worth

Ashley Stuhr shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Ashley, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My day starts early as I’m up at 5 a.m. for a workout with my accountability friends. If I miss a morning, I feel terrible! Exercise is non-negotiable for me; it relieves stress, strengthens both body and mind, and sets a positive tone for the rest of the day.

When I get home, I take a few quiet moments to read my Bible before the house wakes up. That time grounds me and reminds me to be grateful and no matter what the day brings, there are always blessings if we choose to recognize them. I try not to let the “things that go wrong” overshadow the beauty of the day.

Our youngest daughter is still at home, so my husband and I usually meet up in the kitchen to catch up while she gets ready for school. We try to ease into the day without diving straight into business talk.

In 2017, I made the big decision to leave a well-paid corporate job with benefits to invest in my family. I realized I didn’t need to be a perfect parent; I just wanted to be a present one. Owning my own business has given me that flexibility and the chance to build something meaningful.

No two days look the same now. My work revolves around building relationships with like-minded people in my community and across the U.S. (thank you, Zoom!). When I’m not networking, I’m educating business owners about our healthcare solutions. Many don’t realize there are choices other than “nothing” or traditional group insurance. My mission is to spread the word that high-quality, affordable alternatives exist outside of “insurance” dictating those choices — a true win-win for small businesses and their employees.

Evenings are often filled with high school sports, family and friend gatherings, and serving in various roles within my church and community. It’s a busy life, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I originally founded Legacy Purchasing Group to help small businesses access the same cost savings and advantages that large corporations enjoy. As a small business owner myself, I knew how hard it was to compete without buying power. Our goal was simple…use pre-negotiated contracts to help other businesses get the essentials they needed at a lower cost.

During that time, I partnered with a privately owned telemedicine company and began introducing an affordable healthcare option for businesses that couldn’t offer full medical benefits. I didn’t realize then that this small addition would eventually become my entire focus.

When COVID hit, everything changed. Like so many other small businesses, we were hit hard, and our clients were closing their doors, and our model depended on them staying open. It was a devastating time, but also a turning point. I had to pivot and persevere, and as it turns out, that pivot became my purpose.

By 2022, that experience led to the creation of Legacy Healthcare Solutions — and we’ve been growing strong ever since. Our mission is to help individuals, families, and small businesses find affordable, responsible alternatives to traditional health insurance because healthcare shouldn’t be complicated or out of reach.

My journey of adding in yet another resourceful solution to our company also came from personal experience. After leaving corporate America, my family and I found ourselves priced out of the traditional health insurance market. We discovered health-sharing and other non-profit options that completely changed how we viewed healthcare. Seeing firsthand how broken the system had become and how much waste and abuse existed that lit a fire in me to educate others and give them better choices.

At Legacy Healthcare Solutions, we’re not an insurance company. We’re a family business that believes in transparency, education, and empowerment. When people truly understand their options, they make better decisions for their families, employees, and their future.

Today, I’m grateful to work with incredible business owners in our community and across the U.S., helping them save money, reduce stress, and take back control of their healthcare. That’s why we do what we do.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that believed I had to do everything on my own has served its purpose. Like so many entrepreneurs, I started out thinking that success meant carrying every responsibility myself, making every decision, solving every problem, and holding it all together no matter what. But over time, I’ve learned that true strength comes from trusting others, collaborating, and allowing space for growth beyond what I can do alone.

I’ve also learned to release the part of me that needed to control every outcome. After walking through seasons of uncertainty (especially during COVID) when everything I had built was on the line, I realized that some of the best things happen when you loosen your grip and trust the process.

Looking back, I see that the survival mindset served me when I needed it most, but it’s no longer where I want to live. Now, my focus is on purpose which is building something sustainable that empowers others to thrive. That shift from survival to service has not only changed my business, but it’s changed me as a person.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely, more than once! Growing a business is not for the weak. There are days when the “no’s” feel louder than the “yes’s,” and you start to question yourself: Why am I doing this? It can be mentally and emotionally exhausting to keep pushing when the results aren’t instant.

But I’ve learned that success doesn’t happen overnight and it’s about staying consistent and persistent with your mission and your message, even when it feels like no one’s listening. For me, my “why” is what keeps me grounded. I want to build a legacy that helps others: families, small businesses, and individuals, while also creating a life that allows me the flexibility to be with my family and serve/volunteer.

So yes, there were times I almost gave up. But every challenge reminded me that what I’m building is bigger than me and that’s what keeps me going.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies the healthcare and insurance industry tells itself is that it’s “working for the people.” The truth is, the system has become more about protecting profits and bureaucracy than actually helping families or small businesses access affordable care.

Another big misconception is that traditional insurance is the only way to have real coverage. That’s simply not true anymore. There are responsible, transparent alternatives — like health-sharing, telemedicine, and direct-pay options that most brokers never mention because they don’t fit the traditional commission model.

The industry likes to believe it’s too complex for people to understand, but that’s also part of the problem. When you educate people and give them clear choices, they make smarter decisions and that threatens the status quo. At Legacy Healthcare Solutions, we’re challenging that narrative by putting education, transparency, and affordability first.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When people leave this world, no one talks about what kind of car they drove or how big their house was… they talk about who they were as a person. I hope people remember me as someone who led with kindness, faith, and purpose.

More than anything, I want to be remembered for making a difference and for leaving an impression or impact on someone’s life, whether through a conversation, an act of service, or the work I’ve done through my business. I want people to say that I treated others well and that I used my time and talents to help others live better lives.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not about what we have, it’s about the hearts we touch along the way.
