Cameron Boyland shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Cameron, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I’m definitely walking a path — one that I helped create. Every step of my journey has been intentional, even when it didn’t look that way at first. From modeling to founding The Bigger Picture, my path has always been about representation, impact, and breaking barriers for plus-size men in fashion. I believe purpose gives direction, and passion gives it power — and I’ve learned to walk with both.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Cameron “Big Cam” Boyland — a Big & Tall model, influencer, and founder of The Bigger Picture, a creative management and consulting agency that champions size inclusivity in mens fashion. What makes my story unique is that I started out just wanting to see myself represented — and that desire turned into a mission to open doors for others.
Over the past few years, I’ve been featured in Vogue Magazine and I’ve modeled for brands like Savage x Fenty, SKIMS, Nike, and FashionNova, while building platforms that merge fashion, sports, and confidence. Through The Bigger Picture, I help models, athletes, and creators develop their brands, tell authentic stories, and navigate the business side of fashion and entertainment.
Right now, I’m working on a New York Fashion Week presentation during New York Men’s Day that will feature NFL players on the runway — proving that inclusivity belongs in luxury spaces too. Everything I do is about expanding the narrative: that confidence has no size, and representation changes how the world sees style.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bonds between people, I think, is a lack of understanding — when ego, fear, or judgment get louder than empathy. We start seeing differences instead of humanity. In the fashion industry, I’ve seen how exclusion and stereotypes can create distance between people who actually share the same goals.
What restores those bonds is vulnerability and honesty — being willing to listen, to show up, and to see people for who they are. Every project I lead, from The Bigger Picture to working with NFL athletes, is rooted in that idea: connection through authenticity. When people feel seen and valued, the bond naturally rebuilds — stronger than before.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain and started using it as power when I won the DXL Big Model Search contest. That moment changed everything for me. It was the first time I felt truly seen — not just for my size, but for my confidence, my story, and my purpose. Winning wasn’t just about modeling; it was about reclaiming every moment I ever felt overlooked or underestimated and turning it into motivation. From that day forward, I realized my presence could be power — and I’ve been walking in that truth ever since.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what really matters to me is purpose — using my platform to make an impact. They know I care deeply about people feeling seen, valued, and confident in who they are. Whether it’s through fashion, mentorship, or everyday conversations, I’m always trying to pour into others and help them realize their potential. At the end of the day, it’s not just about success — it’s about significance and leaving something that inspires others to believe in themselves too.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think what people might misunderstand about my legacy is that it’s not just about fashion or modeling — it’s about self-worth. The core of everything I do is teaching people to love themselves, own who they are, and stop waiting for others to validate them. Confidence, love, and acceptance start from within. My journey isn’t about seeking approval; it’s about showing that when you fully embrace yourself, you give others permission to do the same. That’s the real legacy I want to leave behind.
