We recently had the chance to connect with David Brown and have shared our conversation below.
David, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have you stood up for someone when it cost you something?
I’ve always made it a priority to stand up for those who don’t have means to do so themselves. It’s cost me a lot over my life by doing so, but doesn’t bother me none as it was always righteous.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
David Brown is a North Texas-based singer-songwriter blending Texas Country and Southern Rock with a raw, honest edge. Born in East Texas and raised in the Ozarks, his music reflects the grit and soul of the places that shaped him. A self-taught guitarist with roots connected to Johnny Horton, David writes songs grounded in truth and experience — guided by the motto: “If you don’t live it, don’t sing it.” Influenced by legends like Waylon Jennings, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Them Dirty Roses, David is set to release his debut single this July and is hitting the stage wherever the road takes him.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Just someone trying to do whatever it was to fit in. Thankfully I’m myself and don’t care who thinks what of me and live my life free and headstrong.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There’s been many times. Especially after injuries on deployment, then recovering only to be ran over and injured by a car at work, then other situations that I couldn’t do anything about I just didn’t care. Thankfully I finally found the purpose through music and ain’t no looking back.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
What you see is what you get. I won’t fake to be or claim things I haven’t lived and or done personally. Genuine, rugged, and honest is what I believe in. I will never change now for someone else’s sake to just be accepted. Love me or hate me at least I’m me.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Honestly I don’t think anything will ever pay off in the end. But being comfortable is as close as you can get.
