Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Debra Moore of Grand Prairie

We recently had the chance to connect with Debra Moore and have shared our conversation below.

Debra, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
One of the most surprising things I’ve learned about my customers is just how much they want to connect with me personally. I always thought they were coming just for the popcorn, but I’ve discovered they’re also coming for the relationship. When I’m not in the store, they’ll ask about me, and that really warms my heart. It reminds me that what we’re building at Mama Moore’s isn’t only about gourmet popcorn—it’s about community, connection, and people feeling seen. That has been such a beautiful and unexpected gift.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Debra Moore, a U.S. Army veteran, corporate professional, and the founder of Mama Moore’s Gourmet Popcorn. What began as a way to help fund my son’s college education has grown into a thriving brand with a brick-and-mortar store and over 35 unique gourmet flavors. Mama Moore’s is more than just popcorn—it’s about creating moments of joy and bringing people together.

Our brand is built on connection and community. From our Kernels team culture to our virtual fundraising platform supporting nonprofits, everything we do is rooted in service, collaboration, and a passion for what we create. Each bag of popcorn reflects that commitment to quality, creativity, and heart.

Running Mama Moore’s has been an incredible journey, combining entrepreneurship, family, and purpose. Every day, I’m inspired by the way our customers embrace our flavors, support our mission, and share in the experience we’ve built. It’s a reminder that even something as simple as popcorn can spark connection, happiness, and growth.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?

The person who taught me the most about work is my mother. She showed me the value of hard work and giving your best, no matter the job, and her example continues to inspire me every day.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self to trust the journey, be patient, and believe in your own strength—you’re capable of more than you realize.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
A little silly, full of energy, and always authentic—what you see is 100% me! I love laughing, connecting with people, and sharing joy wherever I go. Life’s too short not to be yourself, and I’m lucky to do what I love surrounded by family, friends, and of course our amazing customers.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I know my husband and children are safe, happy, and living their best lives. Their well-being and joy give me a sense of calm and fulfillment that nothing else can.
