We recently had the chance to connect with Gerry Davila and have shared our conversation below.
Gerry, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My kids and I have been playing Super Mario Wonder on the Switch. It’s a simple thing of no import, yet it brings us all great joy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a born and raised Texan, a husband, and father. I’ve always loved Christmas. The music, the lights, the decorations always made me so ridiculously happy. I’ve also always been very nostalgic. The 1980s were a time when i was truly happy. It’s because of those things that I started my podcast Totally Rad Christmas.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My mom always believed in me. Her words encouraged me to try my hardest and aim for the highest things. She’s always been my biggest supporter.
Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
I miss being a kid. I miss going to Toys ‘R Us and exploring the aisles, seeing Transformers, He-Man, ThunderCats, and GI Joe toys lining the shelves. I miss running into Kay-Bee Toys and being filled with wonder as I find all the new toylines.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
This might sound corny, but I really admire my wife. Her strength has gotten me through difficult times, and given me the courage to carry on. I try to improve myself for her.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
In work and in my podcast, I always try to give my all. Even as a young kid, my parents instilled in me the desire to be the best. I’ve tried to maintain that in everything I do.
