Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Heather Bush of Fort Worth

We recently had the chance to connect with Heather Bush and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Heather, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes! Being a mom, the majority of my proud moments have everything to do with my kids! The biggest one in our life right now is watching our daughter graduate from high school in the top 3% of class and being accepted to and attending University of Texas at Austin. She is such a hard worker, strives to be the best in everything she does and has big goals to achieve in the future. To say I am proud is an understatement!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Heather, the owner and photographer at Chunky Monkey Photography. I specialize in newborn, child, family, and senior portraits throughout the DFW area. My goal is to create timeless images that reflect genuine connections and tell each family’s unique story. What sets my work apart is the personalized experience I provide — from guiding clients through every step of the process to ensuring sessions feel natural, relaxed, and enjoyable. Capturing life’s milestones and turning them into lasting memories is truly at the heart of my brand.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Watching my daughter face challenges on her high school soccer team with a coach who didn’t believe in her really shaped how I see the world. It showed me that while there will always be negative people who try to bring you down, there are also strong individuals — like my daughter — who rise above, learn from the experience, and stand up for themselves.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self: You are strong, smart, and beautiful. You can do anything you set your mind to, so be brave enough to try new things — and never let anyone make you believe otherwise.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you have to run your business like every other photographer. The truth is—there’s no one-size-fits-all formula. Your business should reflect you—your style, your personality, and the way you want to serve your clients. Be different, be authentic, and lean into what works best for you instead of chasing what everyone else is doing. That’s where the real magic (and success) happens.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I loved BIG. That I poured my heart and soul into everything I did and into everyone I cared about. I want people to remember that I made them feel seen, valued, and important—because to me, they always were.
