Ireshia Brown shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Ireshia, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
A couple of things. Its extremely difficult but I am proudly trying to build my brand as well as my sons brand who is a college football player. It has been extremely difficult because I have no support and I am having to figure it out. It’s also difficult due to his circumstances coming through college how he did and the fact when people don’t see your name plastered everywhere they expect you to sit back and stay I the background. The thing that makes that difficult because in his situation, everyone of his peers as well as adults, and coaches know his in his class that he had one of if not the best skill set, but it got overshadowed in different ways. He has never cared about the flashy stuff, he shows up EVERYTIME in crucial situations in games so it shows up when given the opportunity and unfortunately if he shines too much over who has been hyped up, then he may get “hidden’ again,.. lol But God has been using me as his vessel even though it gets challenging.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ireshia Brown aka “Isy” (pronounced Icy). That nickname comes from the initials in my name, My maiden name is Young so and I never changed my name back to Young after divorcing (last name Brown). My name is Ireshia Shanelle Young (married name Brown).
I am originally from Odessa Texas which is in west Texas, I am currently in Dallas, Texas and moved here in 2000, However, I grew up out here too due to having to come during summers, spring breaks, and holidays with my granny, auntie, and uncles.
I am a full time fashion designer and I cater to mostly women. My brand is couture and high fashion. I do ready to wear as well, but I have defiantly made my name in High Fashion. My main customers are for Prom, Special occasions and weddings.
I am a football mom of a college son who is 23, I also have 2 other daughters 30 who is a chef and 27 who is a female rap artist and now a realtor. I have a bonus child that I raised since he was in the 8th grade who is now 32. and I have done all of this.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was an athlete who thought I was going to the WNBA at the height of 5’2″ lol
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Betrayal.
Being betrayed and even abandoned by multiple people that I thought were as genuine about me as I was them. Learning that betrayal and abandonment does.t only come from enemies, but mostly from those close friends and even family for some people, I have experienced both.
The way that I healed from that was sitting in it…
Prayer and therapy. I had to do the work and realize that I will not keep being disappointed if I stopped expecting me out of others.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
What you see what you get. I’m the same person all the time.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I always went out of my way to help others in anyway I could & that I always made it a point to never take NO as answer when the answer is rightfully yes.
