We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ja’lia Marie. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Ja’lia, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
What I’m most proud of building that nobody sees is a relationship with God. Everything I’ve done until the last few years has been ego based. It didn’t occur to me that my over-achieving, ambitious nature was actually a trauma response for my lack of stability. That is also the reason that nothing really stuck the way I wanted it to. True longevity and a solid foundation is built when God is the center.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Ja’lia Marie. I have a media company ‘Ja’lia Marie Productions LLC’ and I am ALL things media. Anything an artist or creative would need to develop themselves in the public eye and entertainment industry, I can help with. From their visuals (Photographer | Videographer | Creative Director) to their public relationships ( Certified Image Consultant | Social Media Management), I am certified and qualified to assist.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was an outspoken, boisterous, unbiased, truth speaker. Over time, life sort of beat me into submission and I became shy and timid. I was conditioned to believe that women are to be seen and not heard. That created internal issues because the reason for me starting my media company, in the first place, was to offer fair media coverage and a voice to people that don’t typically have one. I just recently remembered what my mission was and began to reclaim that aspect of myself.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that held me back the most in life was being misunderstood. I would often withhold expressing myself, thoughts, and opinions out of fear of offending others. It turns out that more damage is caused by holding my feelings in than expressing them and potentially being misunderstood.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I believe the biggest lie that my industry tells itself is that sex sells. The entertainment industry is solely based off selling yourself to your audience, and it is encouraged that it is done by way of promiscuity. I believe sex actually steals. It robs you of your innocence, it robs you of your creativity, it robs you of true and genuine connections. Lust is so heavily pushed in my industry that it clouds the judgement of the truly talented and creative individuals, forcing them to conform to a way of being that’s unnatural to them and their gifts.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
If no one ever praised me for it, I would still give and do my best. I don’t receive the praise or recognition now that I deserve, yet I still show up because I know that someday I will. I want people to look at my work, old and new, and see that I truly value what I do. My creations are a reflection of me; if I only show up for money or recognition, my creations would be mediocre, and I’m FAR from mediocre.
