James Adcox shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi James, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is something the once it is lost can virtually never be regained. When someone sells their integrity for short term gains the long term loss can be immeasurable.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is James Adcox, and I’m the owner of 5013 Tactical, based in Rockwall, Texas. At 5013 Tactical, we specialize in providing high-quality firearms, accessories, and support for responsible firearm owners, law enforcement, and outdoorsman. Our mission is to promote safety, preparedness, and professionalism through trusted equipment and community education.
We take pride in being more than just a retail business — 5013 Tactical is built around a passion for service, integrity, and supporting those who protect and serve. Whether it’s , helping a first-time firearm owner find the right setup, or expanding someone’s capabilities, our goal is to ensure every customer leaves more confident and capable than when they came in.
Located in the heart of Rockwall, we’re proud to serve both our local community and customers across Texas with gear they can depend on — because when it comes to safety, quality matters.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
The men in my family are all tremendous examples of hard work. From my Grandfathers working on the farm and in factories. To my Uncles that were Policemen, Firemen and restaurateurs, but especially my Dad. He always put in the work. Even when he got from a long day at work, he was coaching the team, at concerts and games. Taking care of the farm. On the road making calls to customers and laying the foundations of what hard work looks like.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could go back and talk to my younger self. Besides telling him to buy bitcoin, amazon and google stock. I would tell him that there is no perfect timing. When you want something you have to be constantly working towards it and the moment you start is the moment you are making head way. There will be not perfect time to jump in and everything will work out 100% of the time. You are enough, keep working hard and the girl that will become your wife will be unlike anyone you have ever met before or could ever dream of.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie in the industry is the social media flex. You see these companies and influencers putting on a show of how much training they are doing. The gear that they have and “use”. This isn’t unlike other sectors but in the gun space we see it a lot. I’ve known of few guys chasing clicks that got into some sketchy stuff and it costs them. They cant actually shoot as accurately or as quickly as they are presented.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
For me when the day is over and I look around the shop. Everything is put away, the books are finished and the customers projects are done. I can sit in the quiet and feel a deep sense of satisfaction of a job well done. Don’t get me wrong though when my wife says she’s proud of me my heart skips a beat.
