Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with JAZMIN BROOKS

We recently had the chance to connect with JAZMIN BROOKS and have shared our conversation below.

Hi JAZMIN, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I’d say I’m walking a path—but I leave space for wandering. A path gives me purpose, direction, and something to build toward, but I also believe in allowing detours. Sometimes the most meaningful opportunities show up when you’re willing to step off the path and explore. For me, it’s about holding space for both: the discipline to stay grounded in my goals, and the freedom to wander when life has something unexpected to teach me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jazmin Brooks, and I’m the owner of All That Jazz Customs, a custom apparel company I started back in 2015 that grew from a creative hobby into a full business. We specialize in custom apparel for large groups, reunions, and special events, and now we’re expanding into event management as well. What makes my brand unique is that it’s rooted in connection—I don’t just create shirts, I help people celebrate milestones and memories that matter to them.

As a single mom, an HBCU graduate, and a business owner, my journey has been about turning challenges into opportunities and building something that represents resilience, creativity, and community. Right now, I’m working on expanding our wholesale side—offering apparel blanks and customization tools for other creators—while also creating unforgettable experiences through event planning. I’m also apart of several alumni committees for my Alma Mater, Florida A&M as the marketing & merchandising chair the Freshman Class of 2004 & co-chair & social media manager for Be Out Day Tampa. At the heart of everything I do is the belief that bringing people together, whether through custom designs or special events, is something worth investing in.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was simply a curious, creative girl who believed anything was possible. I loved to dream big, create with my hands, and imagine worlds beyond my own. Life’s pressures—expectations, responsibilities, and roles—shaped me in different ways, but at my core, I’ve always been that same dreamer. The difference now is that I’ve learned how to turn those dreams into something real, while holding onto the parts of myself that are authentic and free.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self, ‘Stop doubting your power—you are already everything they said you couldn’t or didn’t deserve to be. Don’t shrink to make others comfortable. Walk boldly, trust your instincts, and know that every challenge is proof that you’re built for more.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the custom apparel and event space is that it’s easy—that anyone can do it. People see the finished product and think it’s ‘just T-shirts’ or ‘just parties,’ but this work takes vision, strategy, and a gift for bringing people’s ideas to life. Not everyone can turn a concept into something that feels personal and unforgettable. Another lie is that everything has to be fast, cheap, and cookie-cutter to succeed. The truth is, this industry thrives on creativity, quality, and storytelling. What we do isn’t surface-level—it’s culture and legacy, and not everyone is built for that.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I’ve taken a slight step back from customizing T-shirts full-time, but what people tell me they miss most is my attention to detail, the way I always went above and beyond, and the fact that I’m a true creative at heart.
