Kelly Blackall shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Kelly , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I feel like the Lord’s been nudging me to speak a little louder about my faith—and to stand proud in my love for this country, too. For a while, it seemed like talking about either one, especially on social media, was something you had to tiptoe around. But lately, I’ve felt this beautiful shift happening, like folks are remembering what truly matters. I’m not hesitant to share what I believe anymore. My faith is where I find my peace, and my patriotism runs deep—I love this country and the good people in it, and if sharing that light encourages even one person to do the same, then that’s exactly what I’m supposed to be doing.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey y’all, I’m Kelly Blackall, owner and photographer behind Blackall Photography. I’ve spent years capturing love stories, families, small businesses, and the heartbeat of our community here in North Texas. My work has always been about connection — finding the real, honest moments that tell a story.
What makes my brand special is that it’s built on faith, heart, and a deep love for people. Whether I’m photographing a wedding under a Texas sunset, a small business in Old Town Lewisville, or our local first responders, I approach it all with gratitude and purpose.
Lately, I’ve felt called to use my gift to shine a little more light — to remind folks of the goodness that still fills our towns, our families, and our country. Photography’s always been my way of storytelling, but more than that, it’s how I celebrate faith, community, and the kind of joy that lasts.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Honestly, I’ve been pretty blessed in the confidence department. I had amazing parents who raised me to know exactly who I am and to never be afraid to chase what I want — maybe too confident at times, if you ask them. 😉 Before the world started trying to tell me who I should be, I already had a good sense of where I was headed. That’s not to say I haven’t grown or learned along the way, but that foundation they built— with hard work, and a whole lot of faith & love has kept me steady no matter what season I’m in.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Oh, absolutely—there was a moment early on when I thought I might be in over my head. I ran a Groupon promotion before I really knew what I was getting into. They told me I probably wouldn’t sell that many, so we didn’t put a cap on it… and well, I sold over 300. 😳
It was a whirlwind. The fuel driving to all those sessions, the CDs I had to buy because digital downloads weren’t really a thing yet, the prints that came with the package — UGGG, it was A LOT. At one brief point, I thought, maybe this was a mistake.
But here’s the amazing part: a huge number of those clients came back the next year and paid full price, and the year after that, and the year after that. Almost two decades later, they’re still trusting me with their families and their stories. I’m so grateful I didn’t give up—and even more grateful for their faith in me and my little company. It was the first real proof in my business journey that persistence, heart, and a little leap of faith really do pay off.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
In short — yes, but to a point. The public, in-person version of me is very real, but on social media? Not so much. I’m not one to share the personal stuff online. I grew up with a mom (like a lot of us did) who always said, “Don’t ever write anything down you wouldn’t want printed in the local paper,” and that stuck with me. I’m not shy, and I’ll happily tell my story in person if someone asks—but you won’t catch me posting my dinner, my vacation, or my new truck online. You want details? You’ve gotta work for it… and at least buy me a cup (or two) of coffee first! ☕😉
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
Home.
I once read a quote that said, “Build a home you don’t need a vacation from,” and that one stuck with me—hard. Home base for both of us is our sanctuary, our peace. Sitting on the back porch with each other and the dogs is our perfect place. We’ve been really intentional about keeping our home comfortable—the kind of place where you can kick your shoes off and help yourself to whatever’s in the fridge. It’s our happy place. Fair warning… every visit comes with a little free canine confetti. 😉🐾
