Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Kifo Doorwaze of Dallas

Kifo Doorwaze shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Kifo, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Creating. New art, stories, sounds, collaboration, celebrations, conferences. I absolutely love making new things.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an occultists, absurdist, virtuoso director and curator. I make music, throw themed showcases and meet and greets (C.U.L.T. Fest), write screenplays and genuinely practice magick.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That I wasn’t capable of being truly seen and appreciated. A lot of practice, persistence, and healing later the belief has been dismantled completely.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
That I’m no stranger to hard times so what’s earth shattering to some is only a Tuesday for me. I’m incredibly resilient now.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I come with many chapters. So I’m really dynamic. There’s plenty of “real me’s”. So yeah kinda. But not always.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
That sh*t sucks and always will but it’s up to you to not let it kill you. This is where the comedy of it comes from.
