Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with LaToya Holley-Scruggs

We’re looking forward to introducing you to LaToya Holley-Scruggs. Check out our conversation below.

LaToya, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
Yes, absolutely! Life has taught me that acting too quickly can sometimes lead to consequences that are lasting and deeply impactful. In a single moment, a rushed decision can result in regret, emotional pain, loss, and unnecessary hardship. Throughout my journey, I have encountered many trials and obstacles that tested my patience, strength, and character. In those moments, choosing to pause, reflect, and respond with humility rather than haste proved to be invaluable. Looking back, I am truly grateful for the times I did not act impulsively, as those decisions protected my peace, preserved important relationships, and guided me toward wiser outcomes.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the proud founder and owner of Eye Love Lucy’s Lashes & Brows, LLC, a luxury beauty brand built on faith, purpose, passion, and empowerment. My mission is simple yet powerful: to enhance natural beauty while inspiring confidence, self-love, and inner strength in every woman I serve.

Beauty, glamour, and excitement are at the heart of everything I do—because every woman deserves to feel beautiful, confident, and celebrated. I have always found joy in pampering others and creating transformations that bring out their natural glow. There is nothing more rewarding than witnessing the priceless reactions—“Aww,” “Oh my God,” “Wow”—and knowing I played a role in helping someone feel radiant. Those moments represent fulfillment, purpose, and true accomplishment.

I am a Licensed Eyelash Extension Artist, Master Educator, and Permanent Makeup Artist, specializing in Microshading, Microblading, Eyeliner, and Lip Blushing. I am also a Milestone Circles Alumnae, a Cornerstone Mentor, Business Coach and recently appeared as one of the Face on New York Time Square. My journey has not been without challenges. I have endured obstacles, setbacks, and lessons along the way—but through faith, perseverance, and unwavering determination, I refused to give up. Every experience strengthened my resolve and shaped the woman and business owner I am today.

The greatest advice I can offer:
Trust God in all things. Love yourself. Be authentic. Shine boldly among those who doubted you. A successful, independent woman knows what she wants and pursues it fearlessly—and that is exactly who I am.

Through faith, I walk in purpose. Through determination, I achieve my goals. My mission is to continue building excellence within Eye Love Lucy’s Lashes & Brows, uplifting my clients, mentoring future artists, and creating spaces where beauty, confidence, and empowerment flourish.

A strong woman understands that logic, decisiveness, and strength are just as feminine as intuition and emotional connection. I honor and embrace every gift God has placed within me.

The greatest protection any woman can have is courage.
We must believe we are gifted for something and at any cost, pursue it.

Remember, Success breeds confidence.

“Blessed is she who believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her.”
— Luke 1:45

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling truly powerful came when I learned to walk away, turn the other cheek, remain humble, and trust God to fight my battles. In those moments, I realized that not everything requires a reaction or response sometimes, silence is the strongest form of strength. I learned that I have nothing to prove to anyone and that my power comes from not allowing others to define who I am.

I carry my pain quietly, because not everyone will understand the journey I’ve walked. Yet, it takes true strength to endure betrayal, loss, disappointment, and adversity and still choose to rise, to heal, and to keep moving forward. That perseverance, grounded in faith and resilience, is where my true power was born.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
Yes, absolutely. One of the most meaningful examples is my daughter, Aniah. She not only listens, but she truly hears me. She offers thoughtful, honest feedback, comfort, encouragement, and wise guidance beyond her years. She is gently spoken, deeply compassionate, and incredibly inspiring, with a heart as big as Texas.

Aniah embodies both strength and kindness, and I am immensely proud to call her my daughter. She has been a constant source of support and understanding a trusted confidant and a shoulder to lean on during life’s most challenging moments. Her presence reminds me daily of the power of genuine listening and unconditional love.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies the beauty industry tells itself is that beauty must fit into a narrow, unrealistic standard. For a very long time, perfection has been defined by filters, trends, and unattainable ideals that fail to honor individuality, diversity, and authenticity. This narrative creates unnecessary pressure, self-doubt, and comparison, rather than confidence and self-acceptance.

Another major misconception is that beauty is solely external. True beauty begins within and through self-love, confidence, character, and purpose. While products and services can enhance appearance, they should never define a person’s worth.

Lastly, the industry often promotes the idea that “more is better,” encouraging overconsumption instead of healthy, sustainable beauty practices. Real beauty lies in balance, education, and empowerment and helping individuals feel confident, informed, and comfortable in their own skin.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I believe people will most misunderstand the depth of commitment, sacrifice, and resilience behind my legacy. What may appear to some as setbacks or failure is, in reality, a journey built on perseverance, discipline, and unwavering determination. The public often sees the outcome, but rarely the blood, sweat, tears, and countless unseen battles fought along the way.

There were days marked by loss, disappointment, and even embarrassment, especially when my business did not meet outside expectations. Yet, what is not visible are the countless mornings I chose to rise, show up, and remain committed despite uncertainty, slow seasons, or having no clients at all. On those days, I invested in myself by studying, refining my skills, strengthening my vision, and preparing for future growth.

My legacy is not defined by temporary outcomes, but by consistency, faith, and resilience. It is built on the belief that every season offers an opportunity to learn, evolve, and prosper. That perseverance, even in silence, is the true foundation of my success.
