We recently had the chance to connect with Letetia Farr and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Letetia , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
To trust that my art that I create has value and deserves space in the world.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Letetia Farr was born in Oklahoma City. She is a self-taught contemporary artist who is currently living in Dallas, Texas. In 2016, she decided she wanted to be more of an artist, so she purchased her first set of painting materials to challenge herself. She enjoys painting because it’s very calming and another form of meditation for her.
Her newest collection is entitled “Know your Worth”. “In these pieces the newspaper fragments symbolize the constant chaos of the world the headlines, conflicts, and noise that surround us daily. Layered over this turbulence are affirmations, serving as quiet yet powerful reminders that we are strong and worthy. The contrast between the chaotic backdrop and the grounding words reflects the artist’s belief that inner strength can coexist with, and even rise above, external disorder.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
“When I was little, I thought my worth depended on how much I could please others. Now I believe my worth is inherent, and saying ‘no’ can be just as powerful as saying ‘yes.’”
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
I used to think failure meant I wasn’t good enough. After falling flat on something I really cared about, I realized failure is proof I’m still trying and it’s often the fastest way to learn to see what really works.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to creating abstract art that reflects emotion and connection in people, even if it takes a lifetime to fully realize the body of work I envision. For me, art isn’t a race, it’s a lifelong conversation.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
They’d miss the personal connection we’ve built through my art the conversations, the shared interpretations, and the feeling that each piece was made with them in mind.
