Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Mallory Saied of West Fort Worth

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Mallory Saied. Check out our conversation below.

Mallory, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is by far the most important to me. Intelligence and energy are both valuable, but without integrity, they can easily be misused or lose their impact. Integrity is what keeps you grounded, honest, and consistent. It is the foundation that makes everything else sustainable.

In my work, clients trust me to come into their homes and businesses, to handle their spaces and traditions with care, and to deliver on what I promise. That level of trust only exists when you lead with integrity. It’s about doing the right thing, even when no one is watching, being transparent in communication, and holding yourself accountable.

I also believe integrity is what allows you to build lasting relationships, whether with clients, your team, or your family. Intelligence may spark good ideas, and energy may push you forward, but integrity is what ensures that success is earned in a way you can be proud of. For me, integrity is not just important; it is non-negotiable

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Mallory Saied, owner, founder, and “Chief Christmas Fairy” of Pinecone Designs, a Fort Worth-based interior design company that specializes exclusively in luxury Christmas design for over 15 years. My team and I transform both homes and businesses into our clients’ holiday dreams. Handling everything from design concept, sourcing, storage, full-service installations, and takedowns, so that our clients can truly enjoy the season without the stress that comes with preparing their home or business for the holidays.

What makes Pinecone Designs unique is our full-service, detail-driven approach. We don’t just decorate trees. We curate an entire holiday atmosphere, whether it’s a grand foyer draped in custom garland, a towering faux tree styled to perfection, or a cozy family space that feels both elegant and personal. Every project is tailored to reflect the client’s style while still carrying the timeless magic of Christmas.

I’ve always believed that Christmas design is about more than décor, it’s about creating that magical feeling where moments and memories happen. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of bringing that holiday spirit to some of the most beautiful homes and inspiring spaces. I love that when my team and I work together to create holiday magic it brings us, and our clients joy!

Currently, I’m focused on continuing to grow Pinecone Designs, by expanding our client capacity while continuing to deliver Christmas cheer through every wreath, garland, and tree we design. It’s such a gift to take something I’ve loved since childhood, and turn it into a business that brings people happiness year after year.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
Without question, my parents. My mother, Laura, taught me design and entrepreneurship, allowing me to start hands-on work at just twelve years old under her guidance as the owner of her own interior design and contracting business. She showed me firsthand what it meant to be both a leader and a creative, and it shaped how I view work, resilience, and opportunity. Seeing her balance artistry with entrepreneurship taught me that you can turn passion into a livelihood if you’re willing to work hard and stay true to your vision. My father, Paul, modeled dedication and consistency, showing me the importance of perseverance and working hard no matter the circumstances. They instilled in me not only confidence in my creativity but also many values to live by, such as kindness and professionalism. That foundation has guided how I see myself, not just as a designer, but as someone capable of building something meaningful that brings joy to others.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I wouldn’t say I’ve truly suffered, but I’ve certainly faced challenges and trials along the way. Those experiences have taught me lessons that success alone never could; mainly resilience, adaptability, and the importance of keeping my eyes on the bigger picture. They’ve shown me how to pivot when things don’t go as planned, to trust in God’s timing, and to move forward with faith even when the path isn’t clear. Success is wonderful, but it doesn’t shape you the way obstacles do. The trials are what give you grit and remind you that joy comes not just from the destination, but from persevering through the journey.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
I differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts by coming back to timeless design principles. True design is always rooted in things like focal points, balance, proportion, repetition, contrast, texture, and functionality. These are the elements that make a space or a Christmas installation feel cohesive and beautiful, not just trendy in the moment.

Fads, on the other hand, often lack that grounding. They may look eye-catching at first, but if they ignore scale, balance, or consistency, they don’t hold up over time. For example, one trend that was circulated heavily on social media was placing an oversized bow on top of a Christmas tree. To me, this isn’t rooted in design—it’s out of proportion with the tree, throws off balance, lacks repetition, and doesn’t create harmony with the rest of the décor. It spread because it was seen repeatedly online, not because it followed design fundamentals.

That is why I always evaluate whether something enhances the overall flow and function of the design; along with if it honors timeless design principles. If it does, it can be a true shift worth embracing. If it doesn’t, it’s likely just a passing fad.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I truly believe I was born to do this. I feel strongly that God led me to this path, and every step of my journey has confirmed that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be. When you’re walking in alignment with His plan, the work feels both purposeful and fulfilling, and I have no doubt that this calling was placed on my heart for a reason.
