We recently had the chance to connect with McKinis LaChe’ and have shared our conversation below.
McKinis , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I always get the weirdest stares when I tell people I wake up at 3am. It’s a routine I’ve been doing for quite some time. I get up at 3am to pray and meditate, then I do workout that last somewhere between 10-15minutes. I take my shower and get ready for the day from there.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is McKinis LaChe’ I’m a Mom and Entrepreneur. I created ML. ML, short for McKinis LaChe’ Kreations, is the parent company of a bold family of creative service brands. Designed to be a hub for artistry and innovation, ML brings together fashion, design, and creative direction under one inspiring umbrella.
I started my love for fashion living in New York. I aspired to be a fashion stylist. The more I studied and worked in the industry the more inspired I got. After studying fashion design in college and learning the business aspect of it all, I knew I wanted to be more than just a stylist.
Looking at companies like Kering, the holding company that owns brands like Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, just to name a few. I knew I could house all of my talents in one place and not have to choose between my love for styling, designing and creating.
ML is where I’m able to be a Creative Director, Fashion Designer/Stylist and Brand Manager at once.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
As a child my mom had me in dance, modeling and acting classes. I just knew I’d be a famous actress. It wasn’t until I moved to New York at 22 years old that my love started to shift from acting to fashion.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely!! You get tired of having to prove yourself. Sometimes you ask yourself was this the right decision? Choosing to chase your dreams vs living a safe comfortable lifestyle. Knowing your purpose and taking a second to realize your progress always helps in keeping you moving forward.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
God, The Lord Jesus Christ is my foundation. Without him I’am nothing. Conversations on religion or who’s spiritually woke or not can be so intense. I rarely speak on these things but, I’ll never hide or back down from my beliefs and what has sustained me my entire life.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I definitely want to be remembered as someone who pushed be to be the person they were born to be. I would want people to remember how hard I worked for my dreams, that I never gave up and for them to see the results of that.
