Nicolette Canady shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Nicolette , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Absolutely, I would! I’m Ms. Get The Job Done Right. Anything I do that’s attached to my name, I go all in 100%. I try to do things with integrity, better than the last time and find little loopholes of opportunity to increase efficiency. Not hiring me is definitely a fumble.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Nicolette Canady, founder of Serenity Society, a shared housing program for aging adults 55 and over that provides support, structure, and a safe space to rebuild. Whether you’re a veteran, re-entering society, or just need a reset — we help you move forward. We’re the stepping stone to your next chapter. I’m grateful to be chosen for a journey that allows me to really pour into others and create a positive impact for the community.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I was in the 1st grade and was entered in the oratorical contest. I recited the poem, “The Me I’m Learning to Be”. I’d practiced in the mirror and with my family several times so I was ready to do my thing. I killed it! Standing ovation throughout the auditorium and I received many praises. I also won first place that year. It’s something that still makes me smile and I was able to learn how powerful my voice was at an early age.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are EXACTLY who you think you are! The world will try to humble you and make you fit in to their small box where everyone is doing the same thing and rocking the same way but that ain’t you. It’s ok to be the odd ball and to think differently. Stop watering yourself down to fit into these small circles. Make them rise up to meet you and be ok with whatever the outcome is.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Authenticity. In a world full of minions where everybody starts to look, sound, and think the same, I choose to stand out by being unapologetically myself. I’ve learned that the best way to connect with people and make an impact is to show up as the real me, quirks and all. That’s that fire that can’t be duplicated.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Wow, that’s a great question! If I’m being honest, earlier in my business journey I was doing what I thought I was supposed to do, following other people’s ideas of success. But now, I’m finally doing what I was born to do- serving others through a people-centered mission and letting my inner light shine. I even took a break from business to step back, refocus, and really understand my purpose.
All my life, I’ve been naturally drawn to roles where I could serve and make a difference. That’s what led me to launch Serenity Society — it allows me to serve people in a bigger way, create lasting impact, and build something financially sustainable so the mission can keep growing.
