Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Regency Johnson of McKinney Texas

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Regency Johnson. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Regency , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Mornings in my world start before the sun even thinks about rising. Before I’m a businesswoman I’m and Wife & Mom — the center of a loud, loving, beautiful whirlwind. I roll out of bed and head straight into mommy mode: waking up three sleepy kids, making sure everyone’s dressed, groomed, and ready to take on their day. Breakfast gets made, lunches get packed, hair gets brushed, and backpacks get zipped. Then comes the school drop-off shuffle — three different moods, three different needs, one big heart making it all happen.

Before I even think about myself, I make breakfast for my husband, making sure the man I love starts his day right. Then, while the house is finally quiet, I switch gears. The boss in me wakes up. I’m sending client reminders, confirming appointments, managing schedules, and handling anything that needs my attention. I’m answering emails, taking calls, and speaking with contractors as I oversee every detail of my new salon coming to life.

And once everyone else is taken care of, I finally get myself ready — fixing my hair, choosing something cute to wear, grabbing my keys — and heading out the door to keep building the business and the future my family deserves.

My mornings aren’t easy, but they’re full of purpose. I do it with love, with grit, and with the determination of a mom, a wife, and a boss who refuses to give up on her dreams.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
With nearly 18 years behind the chair, hair isn’t just what I do — it’s who I am. I’ve dedicated almost two decades to mastering my craft, transforming confidence, and helping women feel their absolute best. And now, I’m stepping into a brand-new chapter as the proud owner of The Regency Johnson Salon + Luxury Extensions, opening right here in beautiful McKinney, TX.

One of my greatest passions has always been hair extensions. I’ve poured my heart into creating my own line, Regency Lux Hair Extensions, a brand built on quality, luxury, and results that completely elevate a woman’s confidence. Extensions allow me to offer the kind of dramatic, life-changing transformations that light me up inside — the kind where clients look in the mirror and see the best version of themselves.

But beyond the glam and the glow-ups, my true mission is education. I love mentoring and teaching other stylists in the industry. Guiding them, sharing real experience, helping them grow their skills, build their clientele, and create the life and career they deserve. There’s nothing more fulfilling than empowering the next generation of beauty professionals.

At The Regency Johnson Salon, we’re creating more than just a salon — we’re building a community. A fun, uplifting, modern space filled with education, creativity, good energy, luxury vibes, and women supporting women. A place where stylists can grow, clients can feel inspired, and the community can come together to celebrate beauty, confidence, and connection.

This journey is personal, it’s exciting, and it’s only the beginning. I can’t wait to welcome everyone into the Regency Johnson experience.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
There comes a moment in every journey where you pause, look back, and truly recognize how far you’ve come. For me, that moment is now. I’ve poured nearly two decades into the hair industry, mastering the latest trends, building a strong social media presence, launching my own extension line, and reaching revenue goals I once only dreamed about. I’ve done the early mornings, the long nights, the classes, the traveling, the networking — all of it. And every step has shaped the stylist, the mentor, the woman I am today.

So much of who I’ve been has served its purpose.
The hustler in me — she taught me how to chase opportunity.
The perfectionist — she pushed me to become exceptional at my craft.
The trend-chaser — she kept me sharp, fresh, and always evolving.
The dreamer — she carried me through doubt and into success.

But now, I feel a shift. The version of me who had to grind endlessly can rest. The one who had to constantly prove herself can exhale. The part of me that operated from survival, hustle, and “doing everything on my own” has fulfilled its mission. She got me here. And I’m grateful for her.

What I’m stepping into now is purpose.
What I’m ready to share is wisdom.
What I’m embracing is leadership.

Because when I look at what I’ve accomplished — the growth, the achievements, the transformations, the financial goals hit and surpassed — I know it’s time for the next chapter. A chapter where I pour into others. Where I mentor stylists who are hungry to learn. Where I show them the things it took me years to figure out. Where I lift others the way no one lifted me.

My purpose now goes beyond doing hair.
It’s about teaching. Inspiring. Creating opportunities.
It’s about guiding stylists into their own breakthroughs.
It’s about turning my experience into a blueprint for someone else’s success.

I’m releasing the old roles that no longer fit me.
And I’m fully stepping into the woman I was always meant to become —
a leader, a teacher, and a creator of growth for the next generation of stylists.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There were moments in my career where I truly wondered if I was done. Times when burnout hit so hard that even picking up a brush felt heavy. Times when it seemed like I had reached the end of my creativity — like every idea to stand out as a stylist had already been done, like I had hit a wall I couldn’t climb over. I questioned my growth, my future, and if the industry I loved so deeply still had room for me.

And then there were the rejections.
So many of them.
Doors closed in my face when I tried to take the next step.
No’s from landlords. No’s from people who didn’t believe in my vision.
Every rejection stung — not just because of the setback, but because it made me feel like maybe I wasn’t meant to be a salon owner after all.

There were moments I sat in silence and thought,
“Maybe it’s time to walk away.”
But something in me wouldn’t let go.

Because even on the hardest days, I still loved this industry.
I loved the transformations, the relationships, the confidence I helped create.
I loved the feeling I got when a client saw herself in the mirror and lit up — that spark always kept me going.

And every time I felt at my lowest, God reminded me of the dream He planted inside me long before the burnout, long before the rejections, long before I even knew what was ahead.

So I kept going.
One step at a time.
One idea at a time.
One “no” closer to the “yes” meant for me.

And now here I am — walking into everything I once prayed for.

✨ A salon owner.
✨ A mentor.
✨ An educator.
✨ A leader to the most amazing salon team I could ever imagine.

All those moments I almost walked away were actually the moments preparing me for this one. The burnout built my resilience. The creative blocks pushed me into reinvention. The rejections strengthened my faith and sharpened my vision. And every setback led me directly to the door I was always meant to walk through.

This isn’t just a new chapter — it’s my breakthrough.
And I’m stepping into it with gratitude, purpose, and the belief that my best work is only just beginning.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
What they don’t warn you about in beauty school — or when you first pick up your shears — is that this industry is not for the faint of heart. Talent alone isn’t enough. Being “good at hair” isn’t enough. And waiting for opportunities to magically fall into your lap will leave you stuck, frustrated, and overlooked.

The truth is:
The only way to make it in this industry is to have a go-getter’s drive.
A never quit, never back down, keep pushing even when it’s hard type of energy.
You have to be willing to show up early, stay late, practice on mannequins, redo styles over and over, take the classes, invest in yourself, and keep going even when you’re exhausted.

You need a thick skin.
You need grit.
You need a vision that’s bigger than your excuses.

Because nothing — absolutely nothing — will be handed to you in this industry.

To stand out, you have to think outside the box.
Create trends instead of waiting for them.
Find your voice in a room full of voices.
Market yourself.
Take risks.
Put yourself out there even when you’re scared.

What they don’t tell you is that the stylists who truly make it are not the ones who never struggled — it’s the ones who refused to give up when they did. It’s the ones who kept going after a bad week, a bad month, or even a bad year. The ones who turned their setbacks into fuel and their failures into education.

This industry will test you.
But it will also reward you.
If you show up hungry, driven, creative, and determined — you can build a life, a career, and a level of success beyond what you ever imagined.

Nothing will be handed to you.
But if you’re willing to work for it?
Everything is possible.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When people speak about me long after I’m gone, I hope their words carry the truth of who I was at my core. I hope they remember my compassion — the way I cared deeply, listened fully, and always tried to make others feel seen, understood, and valued. I hope they say that my heart was big, soft, and genuine.

I hope they remember me as a loving friend — the kind who showed up, who celebrated others, who lifted people up when they felt small, and who never hesitated to give encouragement, comfort, or a safe place to land. Someone loyal not just in words, but in presence, consistency, and action.

I hope they say I was selfless, that I gave of myself in ways that made life a little easier, a little brighter, and a little lighter for the people around me. That I shared my time, my love, my wisdom, and my energy even when life was heavy on my shoulders.

And most of all, I hope they remember my joy — the smile that came easy, the laughter that filled a room, the energy that lifted spirits, and the way I tried to bring light into every space I entered. That no matter what I carried, I still chose joy, still chose kindness, still chose love.

If, when my name is spoken, people remember compassion, love, loyalty, selflessness, and joy… then I lived well.
Then my life meant something.
Then my heart left a mark.
