Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Setara Monzon of The Cedars

We recently had the chance to connect with Setara Monzon and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Setara , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I’ve always been wandering, I was born a daydreamer. The idea that there’s a certain path to what I want in life sounds too strict. Life has many outcomes. I am the artist, creator, designer I am today because I allow myself to wander. I recently heard the term “the art of noticing”, I feel like that speaks for how I live my life.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Setara Monzon, I’m a Dallas native and lifelong maker. My brand is Setara Jewelry, 14k gold crystal jewelry and Art by Setara Monzon, abstract glam nature inspired art. I’ve branched out to decor pieces along with my art and crystals. I also offer beautiful permanent jewelry. Thinking of what to make next keeps me inspired.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Since a young age I always had that feeling when I made something new even if it was a simple beaded necklace or a no skill painting. Even as a child I knew creating something yourself was an experience but empowering other people to create has been the ultimate superpower.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I think many people can relate when I say fear of being seen has held me back. Instances from the past or self doubt can creep in and cause it. These days though I’m realizing I care less and less about anyone’s judgment and releasing that fear can be exhilarating. We’re not here for long.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Always. I have no room in my life for anything unauthentic. I thrive on individuality and appreciate that it others.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I cared. That I loved. That I noticed the little things and made you feel seen.
