Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Yvette Campbell, CMP of Michigan

Yvette Campbell, CMP shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Yvette, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
As a third- party planner, one of the most common misunderstandings is that I plan events – or that my services come at a cost to the client. In reality, I do not handle event planning or logistics.

My role is specifically focused on sourcing and contracting hotels and sleeping rooms for corporate, meetings, Incentive Trips, Retreats, and association events. I serve as a strategic partner and complimentary resource to my clients, saving them time and adding value through my industry knowledge and negotiation expertise.

My compensation comes solely from commissions paid by the hotels where I book your business – NOT from your budget! In rare cases where an event is canceled after extensive work has been done, a retainer may be required to fairly cover my time invested.

If you’re sourcing hotel rooms or venues for a group, I’m here to simplify the process and advocate on your behalf – at no cost to you.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
In a few months, I’ll celebrate 40 years in the U.S.A. A journey that began with two suitcases and a medical degree I couldn’t use without recertification in the US! I pivoted to hospitality, starting as a hostess with Starwood Hotels and working m way up to Director of Sales.

After a long and fulfilling career, the pandemic brought an unexpected pause. Rather than dwell, I embraced reinvention – completing courses, clearing clutter and ultimately choosing a new path. At 55 I joined Meetings Made Easy, where I found renewed purpose and a team that shares my passion for excellence

Today, I continue to thrive by helping clients source and contract hotels for meetings and events. I believe in leading with kindness, staying curious, and doing what you love.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
In my experience, trust is the foundation of every meaningful professional relationship. In my role, I rely on mutual confidence: clients trust me to source the right hotels, negotiate the best terms, and protect their interests to my best ability. In return, I trust they’ll honor the work by moving forward with integrity.

Bonds begin to break when communication fades, timelines stretch without explanation, or when the effort invested isn’t acknowledged. Its disheartening to put time and care into a project, only for it to go silent.

That’s why I believe in vetting relationships with intention – Starting with clear expectations and open dialogue. Trust is earned on both sides, and when its there, the results are not only successful – they are deeply rewarding.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
The pandemic was a turning point. After generating billions in revenue over the course of my career, I was abruptly let go – reminding me that, In the corporate world, even TOP Performers can be reduced to a number!

That experience shifted my mindset permanently. I made a firm decision: I would never again build someone else’s business at the expense of my own future. Instead, I channeled my expertise into starting my own business.

It wasn’t easy. With meetings at a standstill, I pivoted quickly – targeting a market still moving: Weddings. I partnered with restaurants hosting micro- events and offered complimentary room block sourcing to couples.

THE LESSON:
Adapt fast, stay resourceful, and never lose sight of your value.

Success favors those who take control, even in the most uncertain times 🙂

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
That’s easy! – My husband and son!
They’re my ride-or-die crew, my biggest cheerleaders , and my safe place no matter what life throws my way. Whether I was thriving, barely earning a paycheck or just trying to stay healthy, they’ve always believed in me. That’s love, and that’s partnership.

I’m also that friend who loves opening up my home, pouring a good cup of coffee (latte) or (Wine), and introducing incredible people to each other, I believe life isn’t about how much money you make – its about how comfortable, connected, and joyful you are along the way.

Plan together. Dream together. And always, always live your best life.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
In the early morning, sitting on my deck with a latte in hand, surrounded by nature. The view of cedar trees, birdhouses, and the pool creates a calm backdrop, and on occasion, deer, rabbits or birds pass through, adding to the serenity.

Its during these quiet moments that I reflect, reset, and feel most grounded – Grateful for the life I’ve built and the opportunities ahead.
