Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Booker.
Hi Aaron, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all started after I got shot when I was 15 in Oklahoma visiting my dad, which left me paralyzed. I had a lot of complications after my spinal cord injury. I was an athlete before it happened. I played football and basketball for Rowlett high school. I’ve been rapping for about 3-4 years. Less than that if you count how many times I’ve had to stop due to surgeries, being admitted in the hospital and other things but I’ve still managed to make due. I have three mixtapes out currently and they did good numbers and I have multiple videos on YouTube. I’m working on being more consistent as an artist. I’m just working on being the best version of ME that I can! I feel like my voice and my message around my music and just my story alone could help a lot of people. I can give you many moods when listening to my music. I can have you turn up or just something to vibe to. I special in club bangers tho! I went through a lot to get where I am today
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never been a smooth road for anything in my life but I wouldn’t just say I had to get it out the mud because I’ve always had food and a place to live and clothes on my back. ALWAYS. My parents did a good job on making sure I was always good before and after my accident. God wouldn’t put you in a position that you couldn’t get out of so I feel like the challenge is good. Nothing easy.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in music that’s gone get you LIVE. You gone be able to turn up when listening to me but I can also actually RAP in my lyrics. I’m known for being “that dude that be clean in the wheelchair “ lol everywhere I go, they know I’m gone. PUT THAT ON, but they know I’m a good person and I can rap fr. I’m most proud of the person I’ve become outside and as an artist. I can hear it and feel it. It’s all about growth. I also know that I should motivate people to get up and GO GET IT because nine times outta 10, I’m in a worse situation than them and I still make due and handle business. What makes me stand out is obviously but I’m in a wheelchair really rapping and have talent with it. Most people that are handicap don’t like being seen but I like being in the spotlight. That’s just my personality. My personality takes me a long way. I get a lot of love from EVERYBODY I come across. I just have that effect.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Just learn to take criticism. ALL CRITICISM IS GOOD CRITICISM. It’s gonna make you stronger and better as an artist. Make sure when you drop your music or whatever it is you do, you push it. Have your friends and supporters push it, too and I promise it’ll get noticed. Hit up some of these bloggers and media outlets and try to get a name. Trust me, you never know who’s looking.
