Today we’d like to introduce you to Alethia Vitale and Beth Price.
Alethia and Beth, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Early in 2017, we were both stay-at-home moms in the Lakewood neighborhood who had formed a friendship over our passion for cooking, travel and fashion. Our love for vibrant jewelry led us to realize there wasn’t a huge market for affordable well-made jewelry. So, we started researching materials over lunch dates and on a whim, we decided to make jewelry for ourselves. We received very positive support from friends and family which gave us the courage to step out of our comfort zone and dream up Modern Alchemy Jewelry. Our first Instagram post was a very exciting and scary step. We now sell via our Instagram, Etsy and Pop-Ups. We focus on small collections, that are seasonal, modern and for the vibrant personality.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We started out knowing very little about running a jewelry business. We did a lot of Googling and watching YouTube posts, Instagram allowed for us to have an online presence to sell without having to spend a lot of money on branding. This was definitely a “learn as we go” type of project.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Modern Alchemy Jewelry – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We created MAJ for ourselves but we love nothing more than seeing others wear our designs. We take a lot of pride in using the best quality materials, and simply being nice. We hand make every single piece of jewelry we sell and have had so much fun collaborating with customers for custom pieces. We are most proud of our evolution and our ability to lean on our strengths and tackle the learning curve together.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Being creative and hand-making jewelry with someone you respect and enjoy keeps it from feeling like work, and turns the scary times into exciting leaps of faith!
Our advice to anyone out there is to “take risks, and just get started, even when you don’t know all the answers.”
