Today we’d like to introduce you to Author Tasha Hutchison.
Tasha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a published writer under my maiden name, Tasha Wright. My genre of choice is romance. Growing up, my mom and I would read together every night. One day, I mentioned to my mom that I could write too, and her reply was, show me.” I wrote my first book at seventeen, and boy did I have much more to learn. But the point is, I did it, and I was hooked. I went on to write four more books and published them. I completed my first novel last year, and it’s currently in the editing phase.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Landing a publishing contract isn’t easy. You need to think outside the box for your story idea. Don’t copy other writers. Your uniqueness is your superpower. Trust yourself and enjoy the process. You must learn how to write a query and synopsis. You’ll need these two things on hand when submitting to literary agents/or literary agencies. I always say If you are writing for fame, you won’t pursue it. If it is your passion, you will roll up your sleeves and do the work. I had to take some time to learn the technical aspects of the writing process. In doing so, I created a planner, Wordy Writer, for fiction writers. It works for all genres and guides you to create the bones of your story from beginning to end.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with your business – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My genre of writing is romance. I love to take my characters through a journey to find love. I am in the midst of building my brand as Tasha Hutchison with my novel and my Wordy Writer Planner. I enjoy motivating and inspiring other writers as much as possible. I believe my Wordy Writer Planner will be the most helpful and powerful tool a writer could have in their possession.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I am a member of, Romance Writers of America and another writing group in Dallas. I advise every writer, no matter if they are aspiring or experienced to become a member of a writing group of your genre. The feedback provided by the other members is invaluable. They will help you identify your shortcomings as well as the areas where you excel. It also wouldn’t hurt to join online writing groups.
