Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridgette Watson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Bridgette. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I like to think that my story is so much more than just a few words to surmise my life because it’s far more eclectic than I’m sure people believe. I began as a writer about 6 or 7 years ago, by accident. In college, people would pay me to tutor them or to help craft papers, but that was all. After I took a leap and moved to Los Angeles from Texas, I started writing to inform my family and friends back home of all my adventures. While I was there I also began to dabble in styling, Fashion styling to be specific. This combination of things has now become what I’ve branded “Always August.”
Has it been a smooth road?
My journey to where I’m at, I believe is still in the beginning, but even getting this far has had its ups and downs. Life is not always a walk in the park, it’s more like a trek up a really stunning mountain. I’ve had to deal with bad clients and I’ve had to deal with teaching myself how to run a business professionally. It’s been a journey. My best piece of advice would be to work hard and be authentic. Don’t lie about your limitations and accept that sometimes you will need help — it’s ok to ask for it. I’d also like to say, surround yourself with people who can train you and teach you; people who can mentor you. Be teachable, be humble, be kind, but also, be very strong. It’ll take you far.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Always August – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
This is the hard part, I do a lot of random jobs. I like to stay busy. I’m a writer, a stylist, a marketing consultant, and so many other things. I’d say, I’m most proud of my ability to blend all of those together to kind of form this funky personal brand consultant thing. I can help your online presence and your physical presence — make you look good online and in meetings. I think that’s what makes me different than other people in my realms of work. I’ve very versatile.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I definitely think so. My whole life, growing up, I was the weird kid, who ran around the house in my diaper but always wore a hat with a rainbow ribbon on it. That was me, I liked to be myself. The older I got, the more I kind of grew into the skin of who I am. I started reading like there was no tomorrow because I just loved the way the words sat in my soul. I was also very angsty, so they tended to pop out in the form of really cheesy poems. I also liked to make my own clothes off of sheets and random fabrics I found around the house. My mom was an interior designer, so we always had lots of it lying around.
