Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Washington.
Ebony, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I remember praying to God for a name for my future ‘dream’ nonprofit organization, and one day it hit me, ‘Chasing Grace’! In a time when everyone is chasing everything but God, I thought, we should really be seeking, no, Chasing His Grace! For anyone who knows Him, knows His Grace is not only available, but it’s abundant and sufficient! There’s no need to seek it or chase it, but I thought, if I’m going to chase after anything in this world, it’s going to be God’s Grace! And that’s when Chasing Grace Inc was discovered! Anyone who’s has known me, knows the idea and discovery of Chasing Grace began during my elementary childhood years, and I feel so Blessed to make that dream my reality! Chasing Grace is eager to share service, Love, God, and Grace and with your support these things are possible! I am Chasing Grace! Heart.Chase.His.Grace. #chasinggrace #love #service #God #grace #dreams #reality
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The start of Chasing Grace has been smooth to start, yet has had many bumps along the way thus far. Time and funding seem to be two of the more challenging factors when it comes to moving forward! Because I work full time as a teacher in addition to running CGI, I have to find a pleasant balance in properly managing the two. To add, funding has proved to be challenging as well, however, we are patient and hopeful that in the near future we will be able to apply for additional grants and other support under the 501c3 status.
My advice for women desiring to begin a new business would be to pray and ask God for guidance an which way to go first! One must exude patience and diligence during the process as well. Also, be sure to surround oneself with those who believe in you and your dream… toxic energy can compromise or distract you from accomplishing what you were created to do! Lastly, smile! Smile through every phase as you build upon your heart’s wishes or dreams. Smile knowing that you will succeed and that you were made for this!
Please tell us about Chasing Grace.
As a nonprofit organization, our goal is to create and develop a platform for women and girls of all ages who are devoted to love, service, God, and Grace! Our mission is to incorporate progressive changes and promote positive impact within the community and throughout the lives of others! Chasing Grace Inc. embodies the idea of ladies striving to be women of Grace, role models/leaders, diligent workers standing in support of one another’s endeavors, as well as, individuals chasing after God’s heart! In a society that offers so many things to chase, we choose God’s Grace! Many blessings to each you, and always remember that we all need God: Every Day in Every Way!
I am most proud that we are a group of women who are unashamed to serve and share Who God is to us and we embody that idea(s) that women can actually work with other women and not feel inferior but rather welcomed, supported, and encouraged!
We are set apart by the idea of including women and girls of all ages and backgrounds! We believe that we can help in bridging the generational gap, and remind women the importance of connecting and teaching young ladies how to live modestly and gracefully, and young ladies can also perhaps teach the older generations of women new ideas as well! To continue, developing a group of diverse women helps everyone involved, learn about various cultures and new ways to complete tasks. It can also show us that we are more alike than we are different!
I am… Chasing Grace! Heart.Chase.His.Grace 💛
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
So, of the greatest barriers are of course others feeling as if women do not possess the capacity to effectively lead. Therefore, being constantly overshadowed or overlooked envy though you are well equipped to handle the task. For me, it is important that my goals are understood and that others know that we simply want to help improve our community as much as possible and in any way necessary. As a female, creating a voice that can and will be heard is challenging but it can and will be done!
