Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Honescko.
Hi Jacob, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started taking photos when I was about 14. I had just gotten an iPhone 5c and was on a trip to California and I fell in love with taking photos of places and landscapes. Soon after, my dad bought me my first camera. A Canon 30D. I was also homeschooled growing up so we traveled a lot and I was able to grow up traveling around all 50 states teaching myself to take photos. When I turned 18, I started to take more photos of people and taking more portraits. I got a few jobs with some musicians and worked with them, taking photos of them for their social media and taking photos of them while they performed. As of now, I do photography full-time, taking photos of pretty much anything.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been the smoothest ride. I have had lots of discouraging moments and continue to have them today. I went through a brief moment earlier this year where I actually gave up on photography after not feeling inspire and I actually deleted all my social media accounts. But during a small road trip, I decided to bring my camera and take a few photos and fell back in love with it all over again. I created all new social media accounts and began taking more and more photos. In October, after lots of thinking and discussion with friends and family, I quit my full-time job to pursue photography as a career. As of November 2020, I am proud to say I am a full-time professional photographer.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a photographer. I specialize in portrait photography but I am able to shoot and capture any kind of photo. I am known for shooting photos of other creatives/artists, usually musicians. I help them create consistent content for social media and for their brand. When I am not taking these types of photos, I love taking photos of families and of couples. I think the thing I am most proud of is the growth in my photography over the years, when I look at army photos I took a few years ago and compare them to the photos I take today, I’m very proud of how far I have become. I think what sets me apart from others is my eye and my editing style. I am good at catching quick candid moments and I’m able to see and notice small details others may not.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is getting to travel around all 50 states with my family.
