I’m BlushinB your MUA. A Kansas City, KS girl living in a big Texas world. I have been into makeup for a really long time. Was told at 16, I could start wearing eyeliner. Well, that was a green light for grandmother. She showed me how to put on a full face. From that point, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. Started by just doing my own face and some friends.
Once I knew, I wanted to become a professional makeup artist. I also knew I wanted to know how to take care of the skin. So, I graduated from OGLE School Hair, Skin & Nails. Started at my first salon Dimetyme Beauty Salon in Duncanville, TX. It’s been magical every since. My goal is to make every woman leave my chair Blushing‼️
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t think nothing in life comes easy. My journey so far as a makeup artist has been tough. I’m the newbie on the scene, so I have a lot to prove. Building customers trust is the hard part but you have to stick to it. You have to continue to educate yourself. Stay updated on the new trends. Just keep putting your best foot forward. Practice, practice, practice.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Make sure you go to things that have to do with your craft. Fashion shows, hair shows. Always have a business card on hand. Look inviting and ready to always brand yourself. If that don’t work… book one on ones with your favorite artist and ask questions.
