Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Ornelas.
Janet, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I initially started blogging in 2015 and at first, I wrote about everything because I’m multi-passionate. But as I was getting more involved with my blog, I noticed that I needed to find my niche. I started by asking myself questions. One of the questions that helped me find my niche was, What did I enjoy doing when I was a kid? I really enjoyed reading, playing with my Barbies, my mom’s makeup and clothing. I choose to stick with reading because I enjoyed getting lost in a book for hours. I really wanted to pick reading back up again and that’s when The Prudent Woman really started. I also wanted to add fun elements like helping families with small children have fun in big cities. So, I added a family series and a date night with a twist series to my blog. I really enjoy making those because I get to spend time with my husband and kiddos.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Blogging takes a lot of work and I underestimated it completely in the beginning. It looks pretty from the outside but from the inside, you have to be creative, you have to stand out, you have to engage and create interesting content. For anyone that wants to start, just start. Start exploring what you truly love and talk about that, because if you don’t love what you do, it’s going to be a million times harder. You won’t really know what you getting yourself into until you start.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Prudent Woman Blog – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
This is a fun question because I’m loving my work right now. I review personal development books. I’m on this personal growth high right now. And I want everyone to pick reading back up because it’s so good for your soul. In order to get into reading. You have to start with a really good book. If you check out my Instagram account you can start with one of the books I recommend. I only recommend the most impactful books I’ve read thus far.
Who have you been inspired by?
I’m surrounded by strong women. My mother, my grandmother, my aunts, and sister are all strong women. Their resilience is what inspires me. The way they get back up after a fall inspires me. They’re advice, how they care for me and love me is what inspires me.
