Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmy Von Thron.
Hi Jimmy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, I was fortunate to have success both in the classroom and on the football field. With this, I was able to play football for Princeton University for four years. After graduating from Princeton in 2015, I took the typical corporate job in Dallas. In 2017 my neighbors convinced me that I should apply to the show “The Bachelorette”… as a joke. However, my audition video ended up going viral on YouTube and I discovered that I had a passion: bringing laughs to a world that takes itself too seriously.
Since then, I have created a video production studio in my apartment and taught myself video editing. I enjoy parodying pop culture (The Bachelorette, Tiger King, interviewing Instagram “models”), poking fun at political correctness, and creating funny content for local and national brands (Chick-fil-A and Tiff’s Treat’s are my two favorites). Additionally, last year I convinced my best friend from high school Ty Kelly to move from Florida to Dallas so that we can make comedy content together. My big break was going viral in 2018 when I met George W Bush while wearing a tank top with Dubya’s face on it and holding a sign reading, “Life Goal: Meet Dubya While Wearing Dubya Tank.” The picture exploded on the internet, appearing on Fox News, Barstool Sports, and the front page of Reddit. The picture was retweeted by conservative personalities like Ben Shapiro and Sarah Palin, and “Fox and Friends” had a debate on whether grown men should wear tank tops (unfortunately all the pretty Fox News anchors expressed that they did not like the look). Finally, it ended with a signed copy of the photo from President George W Bush himself arriving at my doorstep a few months later. Since then, I have created another shirt with the picture of the President and I on it. I mailed it to his office and have yet to hear a response.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The toughest part for me is discerning what is my ultimate purpose is with all my comedy shenanigans. This sounds corny, but I really feel called to bring laughter in a time where people take everything too seriously. There are times when my videos totally flop and I think “God, you sure this is what I’m supposed to be doing?” I don’t know if this will ever be a full-time gig, but I do know that making funny videos is a passion of mine that I will continue pursuing for as long as possible.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
JVT Entertainment is a comedy brand where the goal is to bring laughs to a world that takes itself too seriously. In a time where everyone is easily offended, I like to remind people that it’s okay to laugh at what’s going on in the world. Additionally, I incorporate brands and businesses into comedy videos as a unique way to reach potential customers. I love helping businesses grow and inspiring laughter simultaneously.
On Tik Tok, I have over one million total likes, and my best video has over five million views. Something I’m currently most known for and most proud of is a viral music video and trending Spotify Single “IMP (It’s My Pleasure),” a Chick-fil-A themed parody of the Cardi B song “WAP.” With the help of my best friend and comedy partner Ty Kelly, we were able to write, record, and produce a high quality song and music video that has everyone laughing their butts off. The music video absolutely exploded on Ty’s Tik Tok to the tune of 4.5 MILLION views. My crazy suits and outfits are what set me apart. In my videos and in real life, I typically wear attention seeking suits with obnoxious patterns that you can see from a block away. In fact, I wear these whacky outfits so often that my friends are genuinely surprised when I dress normally.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Since I can remember, I’ve always enjoyed being the center of attention and making people laugh. I was the class clown and sometimes did not know when to shut my mouth. As a child, I was a beach bum who spent every day in the summer surfing or fishing at the beach. In high school I adopted the work hard play hard mentality that I still carry today. While I was always hanging out with friends and playing football and baseball, I also had straight A’s and remained very involved in my church. I still have the same mindset today with my corporate 9-5 job during the day combined with my passion for comedy after hours.
