Life and Work with KC Cloud

Today we’d like to introduce you to KC Cloud.

Thanks for sharing your story with us KC. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Cheesy as it sounds – I planned my own wedding. For the long story, I studied NeuroPsych at TCU (go Frogs!) and had my plans laid out to get my Ph.D. and eventually, teach at a collegiate level. I went to a seminar with a teacher and fell asleep, I was so bored – so I called my then boyfriend (now husband) freaking out. I hated this – what was I supposed to do? So, I finished my degree and went into marketing, since I was a waitress throughout college, it made sense. Well, I ended up getting fired two weeks before my wedding, so my husband told me to wait until after our honeymoon to figure it out. At my wedding, I looked out and saw all our friends and family having a great time – it made me so happy. After the wedding, I told him – “you know how I’ve always wanted to start a business?” And the rest is history!

Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenges have to be doubt – self-doubt, doubt from family, friends not taking you seriously. I’m lucky, because my husband may very well be the most supportive man on earth, but my family wasn’t that way. There was a lot of “what if you fail?” and “what about your degree” talk when I told them that this is what I wanted to do. Now, they’re my biggest supporters, which is wonderful.

I think another struggle is the time. There’s a saying – “Entrepreneurs work 80 hours a week for themselves to avoid working 40 hours for someone else” and that is so true. I think I was lucky in that my father owns his own business, so I grew up surrounded by that mentality, but since having my son 18 months ago, there are so many bedtimes I’ve missed, times he’s been with his grandparents instead of me that I regret… it’s just part of the game. I chose this, so I could have the flexibility to be with him more and I am, but I still work 1000x more than someone who works a traditional 9-5.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Cloud Creative Events – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I think there’s a misconception that all wedding planners and designers are the same – that’s just not true. My company chooses to focus on the experience of planning a wedding, we would rather handle the nitty-gritty, not so fun things like going back and forth with a ton of different vendors or taking all these thousands of different ideas you found on Pinterest and turning them into something unique and truly you. We pride ourselves in really learning about our clients, knowing your stories – like what you’re like to do, your dogs names, where you got engaged and how he proposed – so we can incorporate all those details into your wedding day design.

On top of that, we like to focus on guest experience – your guests are a top priority for us. We want your guests to feel taken care of on your day. We make sure there are details throughout the wedding to make guests feel special and taken care of.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I think being a first-generation American has something to do with it – my father is from Turkey and started his own business while I was growing up. I think watching him growing up really instilled a good work ethic in me. I don’t think I could do this if I didn’t have my father’s work ethic.

My mom was a huge proponent in the arts growing up. She enrolled me in ballet (which I took almost my entire childhood), piano, and I was constantly playing with Playdoh, paint, crayons – you name it. My mom took me to art museums like the Kimball and the Modern, instilling a love of the classics – van Gogh is always my favorite – I got to go to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam on our honeymoon and it was life-changing!
