Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Cloud.
Kim is Founder of Cloud 9 Charities and owner of Cloud 9 Salon & Spa in Flower Mound, Texas. Cloud 9 Salon and Spa is a thriving, gorgeous salon and spa that houses over 50 stylists and technicians that are the most experienced and talented in the area!
She has always had the heart to help those less fortunate. For years, she has worked in various charities, giving her time and money until several of her friends and family suggested she start an organization that could raise monies to donate to the various local charities.
What a brilliant idea she thought. So, in 2004, Kim established Cloud 9 Charities with a handful of faithful friends and colleagues. Over time, the organization has grown to hundreds of part-time volunteers; they have hosted 25 events, and raised over 2.6 million dollars.
In 2012, Kim was motivated when watching a 60 Minutes TV program, which described the growing number of homeless, school-aged children in our nation. Kim discovered that we have hundreds of homeless children registered in the Lewisville ISD alone and decided to birth Bedtime Rescue, an operation which houses moms and kids in crisis. This effort alone has housed families for over 742 nights. With our community growing, so is the need from so many helpless moms and children. It is Cloud 9 Charities’ greatest mission to provide as many safe nights as needed for these families.Kim believes strongly in her responsibility to give back to the community. Cloud 9 Charities has raised over $2.5 million in the past 16 years. There are two main events that raise these funds. Best Little Brewfest in Texas,Annual giving and Golf Tournament. These funds have aided Ally’s Wish, LISD Project SEARCH, The Warm Place, Children’s Advocacy of Denton County, CASA, PediPlace, Sue Weaver CAUSE, Rachels Challenge, Special Abilities of North Texas, Youth and Family Counseling, Metro Port Meals on Wheels, Denton County MHMR, CCA, The Oasis, Journey to Dream, Communities in Schools, individual families in need and much more!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
no, it has not been a smooth road but it has been a clear road. What I mean by that is I have known the direction I was supposed to go. To help others less able to help themselves.
My advice for the young woman is to determine your passion. To take care of yourself and your life balance. to energize with rest and to surround yourself with mentors. people that are smarter than you…
Please tell us about Cloud 9 charities and cloud 9 Salon & Spa.
Daily, I am a stylist and salon owner. I love what I do even after 38 years! I love making people feel pretty! Many of my clients have become friends. I am known for being a business owner that gives back to the community in a grand way!
I am most proud of the Board that supports C.loud 9 Chaarkitikes. They give selflessly to make a difference. I alslo am so proud of my salon team. Many of them volnteer for the events that we host. I am proud of the community that we support and the way the people step up to volunteer, sponsor and serve.
I don’t think I am much different than any other passionate person. I have found my passion and I can’t seem to say, “ok, good job, well done and walk away”.
I am always looking to the next goal or accomplishment. it is the way I am wired. I think there is always something or someone else to help.
In fact, we are looking for land to move our salon business west. We want frontage land to help our team build the best business they can. Watch for our growth!
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
My brothers and I talk about this. We all seem to be work alcoholics. We have a hard time stopping and smelling the roses. I am working on that. At least, pause and take a whiff, lol!
My parents were hard workers as well. they had hobbies and many friends. social life and enjoying life with travel was important to them. I love to travel and see the world. I have much more to see!
I have always loved business. I love watching our team succeed. I don’t want to stand out there alone, instead, I want to be surrounded by the people Cloud 9 has blessed.
