Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristie Knowlton.
Kristie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a mother who found herself working multiple jobs to make ends meet due to one of my children having pre-existing medical conditions. His dad and I worked endlessly to provide a sufficient life for then and now just to sometimes cover medical bills. I became a CNA (certified nurses assistant) in 2010. Which allowed me to step into another side of the medical field as before I had been a CPHT (certified pharmacy technician) for five years.
Then is where I felt that I served a purpose in helping others. I embraced every moment of meeting new people and learning about their cultures, history, and how I could be a servant to them. While I was working through an agency one of my patients by the name of Dorthy Gregory became my inspiration. She often talked about my work ethic and how she thought I was a God send to her and her family.
Little did I know that over the years, this 90 years old woman and I would become the best of friends. I asked her on her 94th birthday. How did she remain so vibrant throughout the years? She said, ” I always did what made me happy and lived life with a purpose”. I always dreamed of opening my own Home Health Agency, but I was fearful of risking it all for a dream. On the day of Mrs. Gregory death in 2015 something struck inside of me and said NOW or NEVER. Then I began to do my due diligence in my journey of starting Virtuous Homecare, LLC. In May of 2019 is when our doors opened to serving Pediatric, Adults, and Seniors in more than 24 counties in East Texas. We truly believe in caring for those who once cared for us!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? NOOOOO!!! During this journey I had to face myself and sometimes facing yourself can be the toughest obstacle in life. Although my confidence is extremely high. The obstacles that I’ve been faced with challenged my mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health. Through it all, I continued to praise God in all that I’m doing whether it’s good or bad. I had to educate myself in all aspects of my company and life. My advice to all women is to keep God first in all that you do. Hold your head high and never give up. If you fall get back up because when you get up your crown can always be adjusted. Embrace whatever God has prepared for your destiny. This your time, its either NOW or NEVER!
