Life and Work with Lacy Stagner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacy Stagner.

Lacy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, I always knew I would end up doing something in the wedding industry. Maybe, it had to do with obsessively watching The Wedding Planner a million times (still watch it when it’s on!) but I truly love everything about weddings. For as long as I can remember, my mom and I had helped our family and friends with their wedding florals as a hobby.

It wasn’t until my husband was diagnosed with testicular cancer four weeks after our son was born in 2014 that I knew I had to find a way to have more time with my family but still contribute financially. Floral has always been something that was present in my life growing up so naturally a floral business felt right. It took a little over a year to take the plunge and officially launch The Lace Bouquet in November of 2016. Three months later, I left my full-time County job to pursue my dream. For the past year and a half, I’ve set the groundwork for The Lace Bouquet, plus work a part-time job. Our first official year of business was in 2017. We had 11 full-service weddings and this year we are on pace to be a part of 32 events! With this growth, I am so excited to finally share that I will be pursuing my dream by fully investing my heart and soul in The Lace Bouquet full time!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think most small businesses starting out experience many, many bumps along the way and my business is no exception to that. There are so many aspects to creating and running a sound business that it’s impossible for it to be absolutely perfect all the time.

One struggle I’ve had is managing the growth. I wear a lot of hats throughout the process because I am the main person of contact. From the initial email to the installation, and everything in between, I am there every single step of the process. As you can imagine, it’s a lot of work and can be very stressful for one person to handle! Have there been mistakes? You bet there has. No doubt I believe these mistakes happen for a reason and definitely have made a positive impact on my business.

My advice to other young women, who desire to be their own boss babe is, just go for it. Go out there and own it! Find your boss babe tribe and lock arms with them. Lean on them for support and advice and you’ll figure it out together. I’ve been so blessed to meet and network with a whole tribe of boss babes who have been right beside me cheering me on! There are so many young women in this industry that are more than willing to help, guide and support you throughout your journey!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Lace Bouquet – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Lace Bouquet specializes in floral design for weddings and events in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Our style is classic and traditional with a modern touch. We strive to make the floral planning process fun, easy and enjoyable for everyone involved and truly feel honored to share this passion with others! We love every aspect of florals but hands down my most favorite floral piece are the bridal bouquet. There’s really nothing like seeing your brides face when presenting her bouquet to her! It’s truly the final touch to her bridal look!

As a young entrepreneur, I am most proud of the growth we’ve experienced in such little time. I think what sets us apart from others is that our company is referral driven. We are booked simply through happy clients who have referred us to their family and friends. I think that speaks for itself! This business is not just something we do strictly for income purposes but it’s truly our passion that runs deep!

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
Balance. I am a wife to an amazing man, a mom to two young, beautiful children and a young entrepreneur to a growing small business. Finding balance is definitely no easy task. This season of life is just hard. Sadly the world of motherhood and entrepreneurship are not shown together often. For some reason, mothers are made to believe that being a mother, removes the possibility of being a successful business owner. That’s just not the case here. For me, it has been trial and error and if it was that easy, everyone would be the picture perfect mother that has a fortune 500 business!

It might not always be pretty. You might have to let your toddler wear their mismatched pajamas with rain boots grocery shopping or produce a 1980’s tulle inspired wedding, but if it what you are doing works for your family and brings you joy, that’s all that matters. Cheers to us mommas whose world revolves around sippy cups and spreadsheets, cheerios and consultations, sleep schedules and sales reports. This season is so hard, but it is so worth it!
