Life and Work with Nne’Tasha Ochuru

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nne’Tasha Ochuru.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started with the idea of wanting to get paid for being creative. At 17, I’d graduated high school and went straight into college like your “supposed” to do, right?! So, I started my first semester of classes and found out quickly that this wasn’t for me. I needed something more. I became very unhappy so I quit in the middle of the semester. At the time, I was still living with my grandma and couldn’t just sit in the house and do nothing. So, I saw a commercial for The Art Institute, so I went online and applied.

There, I picked up photography, at the age of 18. I completed several terms there. I got really close to graduating, tuition got really expensive. I thought I was only going to take a term or two off while getting funds together. There, I started Tash.Ophotography to freelance and stay in my field and save money. “I THOUGHT!” At the age of 19 turning 20, I had a little baby boy name RHYS L.J MAYS. At 21, realizing that children clothes are really expensive and also with the inspiration of my sisters resale shop, Exchange to Change. We partnered up and created the sister shop for kids, RHYSIKEL. Where we both are located in OC LULAB’s at the moment, come check us out. At the age of 22, I started a YouTube podcast called Gtfo the Room Gtfo my Face. The name came from my older sister while being really annoying.

Now, I bring people in my room and talk about out of the box scenarios and other topics that aren’t necessarily the norm. You’ll get different outlooks on how others people view the world around us, real talk, fashion and lifestyle. In that same year, I also partnered up with THE SHIT PODCAST as their photographer. Now, I just turned 23 and as I continuing my journey as a mom, photographer, podcast/vlogcast host and entrepreneur I just keep working hard

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No smooth journey, just the willpower to never give up. Along the way I had a baby, therefore I dealt with postpartum depression I tried to take my own life, but after that was unsuccessful I got the help I needed to get well. I learned that life is never going to be rainbows and lollipops all the time. You’ll have to learn the way to cope with things while the rain makes the rainbows and the Dentist fills cavities. Try to stay positive, talk to people that can sympathize with you to allow you to understand you are not alone, learn coping skills and just keep people around you that will support you no matter what.

Please tell us about Rhysikel, Tash.Ophotography, Gtfo the Room Gtfo my Face.
I pride myself on my photography first, @tash.ophotography. It’s open a lot of creative doors for me. I’m the photographer for THE SHIT PODCAST and EXCHANGE TO CHANGE RESALE SHOP. On top of that, I have other clients that have been satisfied. Also, with those opportunities, I’ve started children resale brand,RHYSIKEL. Also, being a photographer, I started videography with my video/podcast Gtfo the Room Gtfo my Face.
