Today we’d like to introduce you to Noor Anwar.
Noor, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story begins in Birmingham, Alabama as a new graduate registered nurse. I worked at the University of Alabama Hospital for two years gaining experience for my upcoming adventures. I started travel nursing with my first contract in Atlanta, Georgia on an observation unit. My contracts consisted of thirteen weeks in a new city. My next contract took place in Brooklyn, New York. This one was my favorite! Working three days a week and exploring all five burrows of New York City. I decided to stay for five months but it felt like a New York minute. Once that contract was finished, I moved on to Richmond, Virginia.
This time, I was in a surgical step-down unit. Working on a new unit with new people can be difficult but nursing is consistent, it’s the experiences that are different. My last contract was in Dallas, Texas which is where I reside now. I worked on a Neuro Stepdown unit with patients who had suffered from a stroke. As that contract finished, I started working locally in the Dallas area and now my title has become a per diem nurse. I can travel locally in the Dallas Fort Worth area at any medical city hospital. The flexibility in choosing the days I work as well as choosing the hospital has changed my nursing career. My heart and passion belong in nursing and I love meeting new people in every city I work in. I’ve conquered the nursing world and now I’m ready to expand my blogging and fashion career. Follow me (@scrubsandskirts) on my journey exploring new cities, fashion and my daily work life!
Has it been a smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? No! But the adventure has been fulfilling thus far. Let me explain. Nursing school was the hardest two years of my life. I learned how to focus on what was important and work hard to pass each class. The best advice I could give is that if you stay persistent in achieving your goals, no matter how hard it seems, it will always be worth it in the end.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with ScrubsandSkirts – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Scrubsandskirts is about bringing nursing and fashion together! I’ve always been passionate about fashion and as a nurse we wear scrubs every day, which doesn’t leave any room for expressing oneself. I started blogging, so I could share my love for style. The fashion world is so subjective that one style can mean so many different things to so many different people. I’m so proud of myself for getting out of my comfort zone and being able to reach other fashion lovers.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career? What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
The most important advice I could give someone starting any career is that there are no stupid questions. If you don’t ask, how will you learn? I continue to ask questions and learn about all things blogging. Even though I’m a begginner, I’m constantly trying new things and asking for advice. I love getting feedback so check out my instagram page and send me a comment!
